Title: TPMS Works!!
Post by: bhodge10 on May 23, 2013, 02:40:24 PM
Hey guys,

I just got back from a trip from riding the Blue Ridge Parkway. My display had been flashing the Low Battery warning for both the Front and Rear tire (the outside temp was in the upper 60's), however when I was about halfway down the mountain, the Orange or Red (don't remember) warning light popped and the display started to tell me that the Rear tire pressure was low. The warning started at 30psi and about every 2 seconds it would go down by 1. I kept riding until I felt that I would start doing damage to the wheel, so I pulled over into a parking lot. Fortunately about a mile away was a motorcycle campground and my buddy was able to get a tire plug kit. We were able to get it plugged, pumped back up and back on the road. Was able to get to a dealership and get a new tire put on. So long story short, having the TPMS not only let me know that I had a leak, it allowed me to drive close enough to get my tire plugged, which I will be buying myself a kit.

Excellent testimonial for the greatness of TPMS.  Although, take away the T and you have PMS which isn't so great.

Please feel free to visit the new TPMS thread in the C14 Wiki still under construction..

It's filled with all you want or not want to know about our beloved tire pressure sensors.

What was the cause of the leak?

It was a small piece of glass, it looks like it was from a beer bottle. I had Michelin PR3 on the rear (and front).
