Title: CO2 tire inflator question.
Post by: Fixxer on May 13, 2013, 01:44:47 PM
For those of you who use CO2 tire inflators, how many do you need to fill an empty tire to 42 psi? I'm thinking of going the CO2 route instead of using my small compressor in my tire repair kit to save space.

Thanks,

Steve

Not sure how many, all I know is if you remove the plastic cover off of a Slime pump it takes roughly the same amount of space as a couple large Co2 cartridges and the tool used to transfer the air.  Once you pop the o2 seal it's a use it or lose it scenario.
I added a hook to the pump to keep it off the ground.  And be carefull, the piston portion gets frigging hot  >:(

I tried just this last fall after I had a flat on my SV-650. I ordered a couple co2 inflators and a box of cartridges off eBay. Basically, I gained 4 psi for each cartridge I used in my 109/55 rear tire. So to get to 42 psi it takes 10-11 of the smaller cartridges. I have since bought a couple slime pumps!

I was considering one of the CO2 kits for the trike, but the back tyres are 225/40 18 so it looks like this would be a waste of time....

Richard, we're still waiting for the write-up on the trike conversion.
