To keep the loonies at bay I used a screen name vs real name. For those who use it, I'm SOP Dirt-Rider, super easy way to share pics and trips, just please, no frigging drama ;D
-
Do they have an Arena?
-
I've heard anyone that goes to that God forsaken site gets drawn into the vacuum and all life is sucked out of them as they spend more and more time wasting time that can never be gotten back acting like grade schoolers.
-
Pardon my anglo-saxon...but bollocks to facebook. Does it actually serve any purpose other than for some people to advertise their own mediocrity? I mean, twitter and the other rubbish. Dear god.... John
-
I agree cugsy. Unless you can click, copy, and post without having to upload to a web supported photo site like photobucket, how could it be easier? I think this is what the OP is saying, because if you go to FB and post your name, you may very well get hundreds of requests from folks who are looking for others with your name. So go to FB and upload your pics very easy like and tell others to do the same without having to go through the hassle of the other way. Am I correct?

Nope. Ain't prudent. Ain't gonna do it. I only smoke one kind of crack and it's this forum. Can't handle any more vices..

To some FB becomes a big part of their life, barring their soles for all to see. Using some alternative name allows some privacy and the ability to avoid the BS that goes with family squabbles. My first attempt at FB ended up in drama and the process to delete your account is mind blowing. By being annonymous I can ignore the friends request without adding drama.
FWIW, I only rejoined as a bit of marketing strategy, seems there are alot of folks who think you be strange if you don't have an account :o I once got into a political conversation, when I became the devil to a few I backed out and swore to myself, never again, if I want to discuss my views I will keep it in the Arena, a place designed for such activity.
Creating photo albums of some recent adventure is a snap and a good way to share a bit with many who may otherwise be left out.

...or just too old to give a sh!t.
-
Hey, who you callin old?! ;D
-
I am a fan of FB.........like anything else in life, it is what you make it.
-
I am on it way more than I should. I am a sucker for the games too.
-
So, no new friend requests? :'( ;D

I lime to debate gun laws and politics with some of the extreme libtards that visit.

I am on it. It was really just a way to keep up with what the kids are up to. It ended up that a bunch of my old friends and family are on it and it is a way for us to keep in contact without having to specifically write that person. I don't post much, mainly responding to others posts.
-
Nope, don't do it. Never had any interest in that mess.
-
I really have no use for it, personally. There is a reason I don't use my real name on Internet forums. Several, actually.
-
I use it. It helps me keep in touch with extended family. With people I would otherwise completely loose track of. Someone said it serves for some to advertise their mediocrity. Yes there is some truth to that. But I see some stuff from my granddaughter or my nieces and nephews that are just day to day stuff but interest me because they are my family. The kind of stuff that might go into a letter that never gets written but does get posted on FB. The one advice I give to anyone, especially intemperate teenagers, before hitting the "post" button, read it again but imagine reading it on the front page of the NY Times. If it still looks good, post it.
-
You don't "do" FaceBook. FaceBook "does" you...

I went in kicking and screaming. My daughter made a profile for me (at my protest). Finally I started using it a little. I'll have to admit though, I'm now glad I did because I was able to reconnect with some old friends that life and families had made us drift apart over the years.

I grew up in NJ and my dad retired when I was 14 and moved me to NM. 30 years later I reconnected with my best friend from NJ through FB. We are great friends once again.

Right. My wife looks at it as a way for me to connect with old girlfriends. In order to stay in the land of the living, this knight is keeping out of that jousting tournament. I have two old school buddies I've reconnected with the old fashioned way...I snooped them out through the Internet and then invited them over for a cookout, which went very well, I must say.

This is the exact reason why I don't do FB... ;)
Anyone that I still want to talk with I still do... :) :chugbeer:

No. Just joining this Forum is a big step for me - newborn/virgin.
I got my Black 2012 C14 in Sept. '12, and I love it.
Been riding a Honda 919 for the last 7 years.
Time for something new, and I needed something more comfortable for the longer commute since I changed jobs a couple years ago.
I really enjoy reading all the stuff that goes on here.

Welcome Pilgrim! (sounds like something John Wayne would have said)

I like to debate gun laws and politics with some of the extreme libtards that visit.
Is it even possible to have an intelligent debate on Facebook? I've not seen one yet.......

About like this:

So just don't friend them. You don't have to let anybody on, or you can pick and choose.

Depends on what's being debated!! And who koins the debate. Easy to back out with grace, well at least for Arena veterans ;D

I never do politics on FB and hide posts from those who do. I go to the Arena on this forum and other blogs for politics. This is just my preference. I find it amusing that people on this forum say they will never use social media. But this forum IS a form social media and sorry but you're reading this you're are already using social media. I use this forum mostly for motorcycle topics and use FB mostly for grand children topics. The only real difference is the size and scope possible on FB and you can choose the scope you want to use on FB.

About the only time and place I'll ever do politics is face to face and even then it's a rare occurance.... During the winter when we are doing repair work on our Tug & Barge I've been known to shut down these conversations when they break out in the galley as it is disruptive to getting our work done... Yes I've even told my Bosses to shut down their pie holes when they are on my boat!

Agree! One of the reasons I don't do politics on FB is that a few of my FB friends are also colleagues. No politics or religion at work is a good policy.
-
Don't forget to include NASCAR!! Wanna fight? Tell someone that Dale Jr is a piece of crap driver who is riding his daddies coat tails. Just because it's true won't matter ;D

 Been doing a lot of that lately.

I'll never be in touch with people that don't ride fast. It's a rule of mine.
If you roll in the left lane most of the time, I don't communicate with you either. Unless you read sign language. ;)
