Title: 2012 Kawasaki Concours Candy arabian red first oil change
Post by: mopar71 on April 28, 2013, 06:39:03 PM
I have a stupid question, just hit my 600 mile break in on my 2012 connie. Can i do the first oil and filter change? If i do it myself will i void the warranty? or should i let the dealer do the first? also i would like to use Mobil 1 or Amsoil is this ok. Suggestions on other oils or brands?

I agree with Pokey except about AMSOIL. There is nothing wrong with it, it is somewhat more expensive than Mobil 1 so that oil is probably a better bargain but they are both good oils.

Shifts like CRAP, several here have had that experience too. Have a friend with a 2012 Multi-Strada and he put Amsoil in recently, he pulled it out within 200 miles because his shifting sucked.

Amsoil Shift perfect. I am using it in my C14, shifts way better than the crap that was in it. NOTE You have to use the Motorcycle Oil.

Thanks everyone for the info regarding oil change. Will use MOBIL 1, seeing how it is the most available everywhere. Still learning this site.

Ya think? Trust me when I tell ya that I used the motorcycle variant, they might make great oil for everything else but in motorcycles I know there are better options and cheaper options. They always come out on top in all the testing "they do", so of course they love to toot their own horn. Folks can use whatever tickles their fancy, but I wouldnt run it if it was free.

Autozone, Pep Boys, O'reilly's, Advance Auto...

There are tons of places that sell it. Even Amazon, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004U8JH84/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004U8JH84/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER)

While you're at it, don't forget the oil filter.

just noticed that there is a $12 mail in rebate for Mobil 1 4t. That brings it to a more reasonable $8.53/quart.

If you are going to do the 600 mile service, do the entire service and document it so that the dealer doesn't try and wiggle out of doing warranty work because you didn't take care of the bike the way it should be taken care of.
