Hi Folks,
Going to pop on a ignition when the bike shop asks me if I want a PCV or Bazzaz. Using his words, both acheive the same result.
I've done a search but can't find any comparos to people using a Bazzaz on a Concours, or comparrisons to the PCV.
Two main differences I find is the PCV controls four injectors where the Bazzaz controls eight - must pundits think this is a bit of marketing - and the Bazzaz is a little more hard wired in than the PCV with links to the Gear Position Sensor and Neutral selector.
I'm inclined to go the PCV as that is what people are running here - but just thought I would chuck it out to the brain's trust.
Either way will have the shop install it, pull the secondaries and do a custom map on their dyno.

I have a PC-V on my bike, full Area P, flys out, AutoTune, and air filter. The bike is amazing compared to stock. That said, if I had it to do over (and I don't, bought mine the way it sits) I'd reflash the ECU. Every part bolted on is a potential failure point.
ECU reflash adds nothing to that equation. Just a different map. Believe guys on this forum are getting very nice dyno numbers with the reflash, flys out, and full exhaust.
Good luck, you will be amazed at the difference. I am currently 30hp over stock on mine, which is about average for the mods.

Thanks Barry, if I was on your side of the pond I would be inclined to go a reflash, but as it is any future mods might be problematic to send it back and forth etc.

There is an old thread on bazzaz if you can find it. They seem to lean toward sportbikes. Their system seemed a little bit of overkill for what we try to accomplish here. I'm running pcv with autotune, flys out, zx14 headers with dual muzzy slipons and have had zero problems.

There is no reason to remove the flies with a reflash, that is one of the major advantages of reflashing. (And "full exhaust" has to mean full exhaust- which includes the header).

Thanks gPink, I found the thread from not even a year ago with the Bazzaz rep and things seemed to go a little pear shaped. But since then not able to find a lot of info about Bazzaz running on the Connie.
If the garage can get the PCV in stock that is the route I'll go (ZX14 headers, sans cats, dual TwoBros Carbon Fiber Black).

Glenn, it might be worth your time to go the autotune route if you want to map per gear or not worry about dyno time.

Yeah, forgot about that. The reflash covers secondary flies... which makes another reason to go ECU reflash, vice piggy back units. And yes, when I say "full ehxaust", that's like saying "full D cup". I mean FULL.
I see the OPs rationale for not doing the reflash if logistically he's not supported where he is.

It does keep things easy

Sorry, there are just so many people who wrongly equate muffler (or perhaps muffler + mid pipe) = exhaust . You shouldn't even need the word "full". If the "exhaust" is changed, that implies from the engine to the end of the bike.
An exhaust replacement is a big enough change (especially kissing the cats goodbye) that a flash would have to take that into account. And it is enough change that it might be a guessing game for someone like Ghul, unless they tested the identical setup. So at that point, although the flash route is attractive, a self-adjusting autotune (O2 sensor and such) or a PC that is dyno adjusted might be the best route.

Does anybody know if Guhl has developed a flash for the full exhaust guys yet? I have a FULL Area P on order, and would like to go reflash if possible to keep my traction control and flies working together. Btw, long time lurking, first time posting.. Great site.

As I just said, above, the flash route with an exhaust replacement is probably not a good idea. I don't know the answer, but it is probably not worth their/his time/expense/effort. You should contact them/him directly and see what they/he says (and report back too!)

The reason I asked, is that it would save me a 5 hour ride each way. If somebody had possibly sent their good autotune files for the full exhaust to Guhl, then he can make a Flash from them. I am planning to install my exhaust, as soon as I get it, and take my bike to Don to have a reflash built on his dyno, if he has not already done this previously. (I discussed this with him in march)That way, he will have a map for everybody that has a FULL Area P exhaust, and is looking for an alternitive to fly removal and pcv.

So, figure where you will end up, not start and you will have your answer. Much cheaper to do it the way you want first rather than changing along the way.

The flashing route is perfect if you have no interest in making other changes, you just want the much better throttle response and some additional power. But if you are spending a lot on other mods and might also want to make some additional changes later, or even tweaking, it makes more sense to have something that is at least adjustable and at most self-adjusting.
Of course, who am I to speak- I have done neither/nothing. :)

PCV and autotune makes perfect sense, for those who want to really dig into mods for horsepower. If I personally was that bent on the hp thing, I would have kept my modded zx14. But if you can free up like 15 to 20 hp, and keep the traction controll working properly, with just a pipe and flash, I think thats pretty good.
The nice thing is that theres so many options available to this paticular bike, so everybody wins.
Never had any experience with Bazzaz controller, but I did have some issues with the PCV on the zx14. It does add another possible failure point in the fuel system. Many have had great luck tho.

I have the flash with ZX14 headers works great , I don't rev as much because of the added torque
This bike is a keeper now.
