Title: Progressive 465 rear shock question, now with pics!
Post by: Strawboss on April 22, 2013, 06:31:01 PM
Anybody use one, I think I got the wrong one sent to me, for the second time, no fork on the bottom to go over the linkage arm. Made sure I got the right one when I ordered from the site, pic correct. This has just holes on both ends. I wanted to make sure I wasn't supposed to use anything from the old shock before I think about what to do. It will all be fixed, I wanted to ask is all.

Its been a week now and I'm happy with the shock, and the problem has been resolved. My bike and the garage was torn up for a week though.

Should have ears on the bottom, eye on top, send it back.

Don't know what you'd take off the old shock anyway, it's kinda welded up solid.

Yes, thats what I thought too. I mean its a beautiful piece, just the wrong one. I'm in contact with the shipper, we'll get it all fixed. Thanks for the confirmation Rick.

I just got a 465 to replace my dead 420.  It should have the same mountings as the stock shock.  The correct part number is: 465-1155

Yes JWH, the one I have is 1165 made for a Suzuki M109R. Shipper is working with me to correct everything, its lookinjg like it was his fault. My bike is just torn down all over the garage though.

OH man, its a mess, oily, greasy, dirty. I did the tires and attempted to do the shock. Tires went ok, got the new mojo-lever and my HF changer. I cleaned the place up so its just the bike and the tools next to it. I did take some pics, but it was with my old camera so you'll have to wait a week so i can develop the film. ;D BTW, the shipper says my new CORRECT shock is headed my way as I type this. Stay tuned.

Wow, just love your description. That's Macho stuff!! Not to mention greasy hands and banged knuckles when your wrench slips. Then you say something like, "Oh poop"!! Best part is finding the tool you just used 2 minutes ago and spend 20 minutes looking for it.  ::)

Oh yeah!  The shop just looks 'wrong' when the bike is back together and the tools are put away.  Good to hear the right one is on it's way.

I was planning on doing the valves and carb synch but decided to hold off awhile. I was kinda hoping to get my shock within a day or two special shipping as I've waited since April 3rd and got the wrong shock sent to me two times. But in the end I understand and will wait as it will all work out, and I'm ok with that.

I got my Progressive shock about 15 yrs ago. Just installed and never changed settings. Bike sets a little higher but the stock shock sat too low anyway. I still like the Progressive a lot but I "think" after all the yrs and miles it's getting a "little" loose on rebound. So maybe in a few yrs I'll get another one. ;D

I finally got  the correct shock shipped to me! Bolted right up. Kept the damping at 3 and backed off a bit on pre-load and took it for a ride. You can tell the difference right off the bat, it is much better than the stock shock. I did the Race-Tech emulators a few years back, so the front end is sorted. One thing I noticed though, the kawasaki shop manual does not give a torque spec for the bottom shock bolt, the top was I think 29lbs, so I did the bottom at 29lbs too. Money well spent I think, its like a new bike.

Hey Dave,
I am greatly anticipating  your 2 week report on the ride difference. Now at 90k on my 01, the rear shock is the last improvement I plan on doing to mine. Please keep us posted.
