A STATEMENT CONCERNING MANUFACTURING ENCOURAGEMENT, ECONOMIC GROWTH, AND PROTECTION OF THE CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS OF CITIZENS.
-
This past week an historic and highly controversial bill was passed by the State of Connecticut which will have far reaching consequences to the state, its citizens, and businesses. The bill we refer to is Bill No. 1160, AN ACT CONCERNING GUN VIOLENCE PREVENTION AND CHILDRENS SAFETY. This bill purports to reduce gun violence by banning hardware responsible for less than 3% of homicides in 2011 ; and claims to increase children’s safety by restricting the ability of those most responsible for it – their parents – to defend them.

As a firearms manufacturing firm, our industrial roots reach deep in the State of CT. Along with other companies in the trade, we were deeply apprehensive at the hurried process to develop new gun laws and fearful that it would generate unintended consequences for our industry. On Thursday April 4th 2013, upon reading the full text of Bill 1160, our worst fears were confirmed. What emerged was a bill fraught with ambiguous definitions, insufficient considerations for the trade, conflicting mandates, and disastrous consequences for the fundamental rights of the people of CT.

Texas is making a push for these types of companies. It would be cool if they all moved here.

BRECKENRIDGE (CBS 11 NEWS) – A firearms company that makes AR-15 style rifles for the iconic brand Colt, will open a plant in Breckenridge in Stephens County. Oregon company Bold Ideas confirmed the development Friday.

Bold Ideas goes by the name Colt Competition, making high accuracy rifles for competition shooting.

HiViz intends to follow Magpul's example, leave Colorado

    Staff Denver Business Journal

HiViz Shooting Systems intends to leave Colorado in the wake of new state gun control legislation signed into law last month, according to the Northern Colorado Business Report.

The Fort Collins company, which makes sights, recoil pads and other accessories, started in 1996. But like Magpul Industries Inc. of Boulder County, HiViz said it's not happy with the gun control measures approved by the Colorado Legislature and signed into law by Gov. John Hickenlooper. Magpul Industries announced last month it will be leaving Colorado.

A few weeks ago, Lorain county in NE Ohio announced that it was actively and agressively recruiting firaearms manufactuerers to relocate to NE Ohio with an ad campaign, letter writing, and formal announcements in trade magazines and shows, and most important, tax deals and trained and trainable local labor force numbers. Its a start.

That's strange for a blue county.

Its got nothing to do with political leanings. Its about the unemployment rate after all the steel and car manufacturing went away 10 years ago. Its a virtual ghost town/county.

It's got everything to do with political leanings. Who do you think ran them out of Connecticut.
Why should they move to another location that voted for the same kind of people that caused them to move in the first place. They would be well advised to find a right to work state. Boss, don't get me wrong, I've got nothing against Lorain County or any other place for trying to lure business. It's what they should be doing. But as a business I would look for some where I wouldn't have to do it again. This is the same thought that would cause me to not recommend ILL-inois to anybody, business or otherwise.

Pink, Oh, I agree, what I meant was the statement about jobs was about money, the manufacturers are not coming to NE Ohio, as Ohio overall is somewhat conservative, everything north of the Ohio turnpike is liberal with a capitol "L", the problem, if you want to call it a problem, is that all the politicians who live in NE Ohio think the rest of the state is like NE Ohio. The firearms makers would do good to go to Wyoming or Montana in my opinion.

Chicago-onions? Are they called that because they are like Shrek and have many layers or because they stink?

I would think that if they move, it will be to the southern side of the country.  We're always trying to take industry away from the North.  It's one our greatest pastimes.

Ohio has only been confused during the last 2 elections, and I am still reeling over it.  >:(  South and SW is the best and safest bets for the gun companies and other gun related manufacturers looking to relocate.

One of the communities I work with has a 100,000 s.f. empty plant, that has it's own water and power supplies and it's in the mountains of N.Ga. I TOLD the local industrial development authority to after gun makers from the  north......and they're sitting on their thumbs. What a bunch of dummies.. :battle:

We like our guns and religion(s) here in Georgia... Y'all come, now. Ya hear?

No.  It's north of Clayton off 441 and is just east of Dillard and Mountain City. Not the old one just north of Helen. That's an old sewing plant that is all chopped up and largely useless. They have all kinds of "attractions" in that one.

This one is an old textile plant that is 100% refurbed. Very nice. It started life as a carpet plant, became a Fruit of the Loom plant with 1000 employees and then closed a few years ago. It has a wood pellet fired, steam generating station and a huge water supply. It would make a great gun factory. Rural, isolated, could have great security.
