Title: quietest slip on
Post by: eng943 on March 21, 2013, 04:54:04 PM
Looking for a slip on that will not be too loud on long sustained hours on slab. Very hard to tell on youtube.

Thoughts?

Area P or Leo Vince..........

I have a Holeshot.  Sounds great when playing and is not at all offensive on the highway.  Remember when your bags are on they help to keep perceived noise down.

My Leo Vince (carbon fiber) has a nice quiet growl.  It passes the "livestock test" which means herds of cattle, goats, or whatever don't run when I roll by them grazing in fields near my favorite back roads.  Other pipes on other bikes sometimes haven't passed my livestock test.

See and hear in person. YouTube can give you an indication , but reading about sound levels could lead to a purchase disappointment.

My Vance & Hines CS-1 is just loud enough if ya know what I mean, and doesn't look like some added-on appendage of dubious origin.

I know the perfect muffler for being not loud, fitting perfectly, highly efficient, 100% legal, looking just fine, covered by a great 3 year warranty, no installation effort,  and also extremely economical....

Two Brothers have many reducer options
They call them Power tips ? they reduce power and sound different sizes
I have the small ones but I have duals on ZX headers.

I have a 2 Bros carbon fiber slip on with one of the quiet baffles in it. It's not much louder than stock until you rip on it. Then it screams. Without the baffle it was too loud.

Leo Vince with the insert is the same dB as stock.

I don't believe that ,  nothing is as quiet as stock , nothing !
It's the same design as many others fiberglass packers , how could it be the same as stock ?
I was looking and found a set of used  Leo Vince ZX muffs because it was said how quiet they were till I heard them with out the insert, that is why I got the Two Brothers and the smallest insert of the four that they make.
Have you ever saw how restrictive those Cats are in the header pipe  :o, when I saw how small those holes were I had a welding shop cut the collector open and remove them , They are ZX headers but I believe the stock header has the same, I did not check the stock header,  I'm sure they help with the sound but believe me between the cats and the stock monster muffler they hurt HP over 5,000 rpm    by 5-6hp easy.

Area p or Leo Vince and I might add that my Delkevic with the insert is comparable to these.

Muzzy=loud
Two brothers=louder

Yes, I have had both. I have not owned the Area p but heard it on another c14 personally and it is not too loud.
I have also had the Leo and sold it because I didnt like the sound but it was quiet.

I have been looking for a nice one for the last 2 years, and they are being hoarded up by collectors. $$$$
All I wanted was the "Electrolux" chrome trim and lettered back plate for "addition" to my shortened stocker...but can't find one in good shape....

the model in question was the "XXX" triple-X :-[ 8) ;)

Now you just have to be prepared to re-pack them before others may need it, Two Bros is known for using pretty sub par packing material.

The Leo Vince comes with the sound tip installed.  No, it's NOT as quiet as the stocker and yes, the bags do block some of the sound to the rider.  Not a scientific study, but Leo, Remus, and Staintune tend to be the quieter aftermarket systems - just my opinion.

Yeah your right , I bought some for $17.00 when I purchased   the dual  mufflers for $150.00 , I guess I got ripped off then also , In about ten years I might get to use it, ::) and it might take ten minutes per muffler to install.
I read it on the internet It MUST be true...
IF you have a two cyl motor(HD ect.) you will need to replace packing more often , but NOT with a four cylinder, which  most C14's are ;)

Never said you got ripped off my friend, but the packing is a big reason why you need a sound suppressor for a 2 Bros to be tolerable for many folks. And I never read what I said about the packing on the internet.  ;)

I'm thinking I want to pick one of those up. I have my flies out with a power commander and stock exhaust. Does anyone know if Fuel Moto has a map for these pipes yet? On a side note, anyone on the fence about doing the Guhl reflash or taking your flies out with a PCV...well... get off the fence!! You don't know what your missing!!

Remus Hexacone Titanium here. Quite, far from obnoxious, great sound that is not tiring at all on the super slab, and clears its throat with a great growl when visiting the illegal side of the rev counter (<5k rpm). I like my bike twice as much since I fitted this thing...  :chugbeer:

If you have gone that far , go to a ZX forum or www.craigslistcrawler.com (http://www.craigslistcrawler.com) you will find cheap ZX headers, less than a $100. have the OZ plug  for Auto tune installed remove the cats and you got the best map possible ( how do you thing GUHL got his map ;) ) Used ZX mufflers are EASY to find once again a little search and you've just added the most HP you can with out a TURBO. ;)

Love my Leo Vince. Only complaint might be the price. I run it with the insert, but have run it quite a bit without. I like the tone in both cases. I "feel" that it is slightly louder than stock even with the insert, but it's really the tone that I like.

Every Two Brothers that I've been around was loud.
Same for the V&H CS One (even though I really like the look of them and almost bought one).

Yup that's why I will probably eventually do it. The other 2 bikes were carbureted. One was a Valkyrie with 6 carbs and changing jets on that was a bitch. But the other was a VTX with a single carb easy to work on. I tried many different jets. I even tried a dial-a-jet http://www.thunderproducts.com/dial_a_jet.htm (http://www.thunderproducts.com/dial_a_jet.htm) product and still could never get it to run as well as stock. But I'm thinking FI might make the difference. Does yours do the decel popping? The VTX did it bad. I blocked the pair valves which improved it greatly but did not eliminate it. If I do it I will probably send my ECU back to Ghul for another re-flash.

I do get some minimal popping sometimes on closed throttle decel... Very minimal. I don't know if there is a map that completely rids it, but its soooo smooth way down low in the rpms in any gear that i'll take the minor popping here and there for the perfection everywhere else.

Had a stock pipe on my last bike all 14 years, first one to do that. Liked the fact that this bike was nice and quiet also but, that pipe is not the most attractive or light feat of engineering. Decided to get a slip on for looks, weight and sound. Delkevic seems to fit the bill. Not too loud, 13 lbs. lighter and looks way better than stock. Not willing to spend a huge amount on a pipe for what equates to a vanity purchase. I'm happy with it so far.

I am considering a slip on and a Guhl reflash.  I want the slip on for weight loss and power gain. I do NOT want louder. If I want loud, I wil ride my FZ1 with a Yosh CF, it makes heavenly sounds.  AreaP shows very nice dyno charts. It's very expensive!!

Is it a bolt on?  I.E, no remapping required?  What about the combination of the Guhl and the AreaP?

Area P is not expensive at when compared to the majority of units out there available, but you do get what you pay for sometimes. It is a slip on, comes with a new mid pipe that replaces the enormous and heavy stock unit. No remapping of any kind is needed, and the Area P is very quiet compared to most.

If you think a possible ~2% power increase and ~2% weight loss is worth the effort and expense of muffler replacement (and likelihood that it will increase the noise-very likely) then go for it.  But the Guhl flash will make all the difference that matters, however.  Maybe some day I will do it too....

Between the catalytic converter thread and this one, I am dwelling on an area P full re-pipe with a power commander.  Next year I'll be doing a lot of riding.. I'll have a 2 hour commute.  I am looking to clean up the rps and get a little better gas mileage.

It's a rather expensive system.  The last time I did something lie this (to a honda shadow) it completely ruined teh performance and i had to return it to stock again.

Input from the peanut gallery??

I'm a fan of the flash because it does NOT mess with Traction control and like I've said with four different sizes of reducers you can get a quiet bike . The cats do help reduce the sound also add restriction,  I believe I have the best of both with the ZX cat free headers and the smallest Power tip Two Brothers makes . The great thing about the ZX headers you can buy them CHEAP , lots of the  ZX crew spend the big $$2,000  on the Brock  exhaust and don't need or want their factory junk ;)  I wish we could have a real life Go Pro Y tube  clip to show the REAL life sound and power difference , I'm here ready If anyone ever comes by Naples Fl.
