Title: seriously considering a Trophy
Post by: eng943 on March 10, 2013, 06:41:49 AM
I stopped and looked at a new Triumph Trophy this week, and am really impressed with this bike. From a value perspective, it is a bargain. True, it is roughly $2,700 more than a Concours, but that money buys you a ton of features not available on a c14.

The Trophy looks to have great weather protection, of course it has cruise, radio, electronic suspension, all of which make long rides more enjoyable. The only thing my c14 will do better is accelerate faster.

Anyway, no question the trophy is a better distance bike.

Se have a local guy who purchased a Trophy with the "value" pack and he has had an alternator fail, fuel sender sensor fail, and is getting part of his wiring harness replaced.  Triumph is truly standing by his bike and the dealer appears to be very willing to help and stand by its product.  I hope that is only an aberration rather than a condition all owner's will be having.

Nevertheless I am not sure the price difference from a Concours is $2K different and my impression of the Triumph Trophy "Value" package is nearly $5K from the Concours.  There is also a dealer north of us (Moses Lake, WA) who is selling new 2012 Concours for just under $14K.

Long distance comfort is different for each person but I personally have felt the Concours is as comfortable as a FJR, and both were comfortable more than a ST1300.

But ultimately ride what you like.

It is more than a $2700 difference. I just bought a leftovet for $12,500 otd. If I could have gotten a Trophy for $15,200 otd, I would be riding one of those instead if a C-14. Just maybe noone will buy them and we'll get them for $10,000 in a couple years.

Love the Trophy too. Too pricey for me right now, way too much. Maybe it may come down.

Triumphs' dealer net is as thin as BMWs'. That's one reason I moved to theConcours.

Also, heated grips are extra.  Personally, I'm not a fan of listening to music while riding, so that would be wasted money for me, but it's a nice bike, enjoy it.

That is the only thing that is causing me to ponder my decision. I would feel better if the Trophy had been out for a while before I pulled the trigger. I may ultimately decide to go the way of a BMW K1600GT.

Not on an MSRP to MSRP comparison it isn't. What someone is able to buy them for is subjective. Start farkling a C14 to be a distance weapon, and you are close to Trophy money.

Theres a lot on that bike I just don't need, will never use and don't want. Nice bike though, real nice. For me, I doubt very much that if I was to outfit a C-14 for my tastes there is no way in the world it would be $20,000. If you like the bike, can afford it, then by all means get it, no one here will second guess you, most, including me, will be green with envy that you got what you wanted. Keep us posted, get some pics, and let us know how it rides. ;)

I do see some Trophy owners having some issues, and I consider that with some cautiosness, because we all know how internet forums tend to magnify problems. The Trophy is a bargain on paper when you add up what it comes with, the incredible weather protection it offers right out of the box, etc. You could spend thousands farkling a C14 to get only a percentage of the comfort, convenienince and integration the Trophy offer. What you give up on the Trophy is power.

I will test ride a Trophy soon and report on my impressions.
