While doing some research for a component that I'm developing at work, I had to find a supplier who could do some complicated plastic parts, and came across this (http://www.jdeha.de/Advanced_development_design_and_engineering.php). Looks familiar?

:rotflmao:
You had better keep looking Martin!
-
Wow! What are the chances of running across that? I wonder what other design parts Kawi outsourced. I've done some work with Infineon on automotive electronics including ECM's.
-
Interesting to see that CAD drawing!
The C14 ABS isa Bosch unit, right? They were probably the best choice for that task. I suspect big K would have provided a statement of work and design details to Bosch.

:yikes:
-
Wow- that is too funny/freaky. What are the odds???!!

Lost my bags? Quite the opposite, I've overstuffed mine about every distance trip I've been on including offroading in the desert.
I should've known there's some awesome german engineering on this bike somewhere. I'm willing to bet they invented Kipass too (http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j180/stevewfl/icon10.gif)(http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j180/stevewfl/icon10.gif)(http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j180/stevewfl/icon10.gif)

I thought I heard someone on here say that when their bag fell off it made a noise like "Aach!""
-
It makes me wonder just which parts are Kawasaki and what has been outsourced? Martin, if you do need a handle assy. for something, make sure you get the wire keepers we all had to get on ebay. Maybe they furnish color coded zip tyes with each handle purchase?
-
The intelligent manufacturers outsource a lot of their work to people who do a better job.
I am not at all surprised that a German company designed the pannier latches.
How can you tell if these are the MK1 or MK2 latches? Perhaps they went to the Germans to fix the MK1 problem.
I would be surprised if all of the bike was Japanese made/designed.
In todays global market the whole idea of buying a particular "nationality" product is laughable.
I guess you could buy "nationality" beef steaks but something as complex as a motorcycle,.... nah.
Personally I like my anglo/french/swedish horse/beef Ikea meatballs as much as I like my Japanese/German/American/Korean steel/aluminium/plastic motorcycle. 8)

+1 never had a problem with my bags. But early on I bought the little wire doo dads that go under the handle and hook to the grab rails.

No one has said this, but if the bag latches are made in Germany, I'm assuming the center compartment latch on the 08-09 bikes is made and designed in Mexico?

...ah yes, the useless box.

That box reminds me of Illinois politicians, except that it didn't cost me any money, yet...

If you owned a 2003 BMW K1200RS you would know that the mechanism used on the BMW detachable saddle bag is almost identical to that used on the C14 bags. Dimensional it is slightly different. One important difference is material. Where Kawasaki uses plastic BMW uses Aluminum. Other than those two differences thet method of attaching/detaching is eaxactly the same. I didn't have my BMW long enough to know if there was a problem with bags falling off of the bike.

:rotflmao: I don't think I've every seen anything quite so useless that I wanted to have.

:rotflmao:
For some strange reason I want one too!
