Being new to the Concours 14 I was wondering how much play is normal in the rear drive assembly. I seem to have an excessive amount of play when the bike is on the center stand and in first gear. I can move the rear tire about three inches when looking at the circumference of the tread. I am more familiar with the Goldwing and it only has about one inch. Thank you for any help you can give me.

Mine is about the same so it's probably normal.
-
Thank you. That makes me feel better. I was afraid there was a problem.
-
Sounds about normal.
-
Same here!! :)

Just measured mine. Exactly 3". The wing only has about an inch? My 97 Valkyrie had more then that. An inch is pretty tight. Honda builds thing well.

Thanks everybody. That is one less thing to worry about.

Ride more. Worry less. Have fun every day!

That 2mm tolerance in the rear bevel box is added by the 2mm tolerance in the front bevel box which is then added to the tolerance in the gears for 1st gear and the tolerance in the primary drive.
Then take into account the radius of the wheel and 3 inches is pretty good.
The Whang has less because it has one less bevel drive due to having a longitudinal crankshaft.

Hadn't thought of that. Good point! My Honda ATV's are the same way. I would guess the boxer beemers would also have less play.
