Title: C14 USB solution, (I'm so tired of the BS!)
Post by: stevewfl on February 18, 2013, 04:01:12 PM
I'm tired of the sensitive USB cable being exposed to the elements, cord dangling, etc.

I ordered one of these BOAT/MARINE USB gigs to mount in my dash.  The other end will be wrapped tighter than ....nevermind  sealed well ;D

Or just install an outlet in the glovebox (like some of us have).

I don't wanna pop that box open I just want to shove a cord in, but sweet option right there   =)

Dang. I usually by a USB extension cable for $1 and  stick a little silicone grease in it.

Flathead, thats nice, but expensive and I need the end of it like plugs into what ZG posted (which I already have on the bike).

ZG that one plugs into an existing cigarette lighter, I need a separate marine grade dash mount I'll be plugging into one like you posted and then wrapped      ;D

This "extension" with USB on each end-

Will be going into this (mod I did a while back) but a dash mount on the open end.................... no danglies and BS like i have today. then to the fuzeblock

Steve, how are you going to mount the wood panel on the bike?  I must say that wood, such as Amboyan Burl, would give the C14 a nice touch of class (properly stained and polished)...

I am passing this along for anyone who wants a good buy on waterproof usb ports. They are the same unit as the webbikeworld pieces but $15 cheaper. I just got 4 in for myself. They come out of Canada so they take a few extra days to get, but that's OK for the savings.

Even though they are out of stock, check back every couple days and they will have them. It took about 4 days for me to catch them in stock.

Ok dammit i needed a 5 star cigarette lighter type waterproof USB.  WTF is a "cigarette lighter" on my bike for anyway?  Hardly anyone smokes any more and USB availability is EVERYWHERE, even a cheesy jet-blu airplane terminal (meetings on the cheap!) has USB availability. Forgive the crappy phone cam pics heh

Now my bike does too  ;D

Under the friggin' knife goes the right side panel  (http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j180/stevewfl/bigthumb.gif)

lets clean up a soft round outlet

OH YES, 5V (not hardwired straight to 12V) USB availability!

Certainly a clean installation, Steve.

Have to agree on questioning the "cigarette" lighter socket installation, but it does go nice next to the display for "outside" air temperature!   ::)
