you may live in Texas
If the speed limit on the highway is 55 mph, and you're going 80, and everybody's passing you,
you may live in Texas
If you find 60 degrees 'a little chilly,'

Being a Texan is a lot better than wanting to be one. ;)

I would move back if the right opportunity came along. Grew up in Denver City, lived in Arlington. I love Texas and the friendly traditional people of the lone star state...
DON"T MESS WITH TEXAS! ;)
-
Hell yeah, that's some good information right there!

The traffic never bothered me... I do miss fresh seafood, fresh hot HEB tortillas, Taste Of Texas, TexMex, Los Cucos, real BBQ, Southwest Houston's Little China, being able to find anything and everything within an hours drive. 8)
-
No love for Texas?? :o
Nope..........
and I'll just leave it at that.....
-
You can't just leave it at that. Inquiring minds want to know.

Rudy's, rodeos, Hill Country, hospitality, manners, love of country, "Here Everything is Better", cowgirls, Alamo

Yeah, that's like someone saying they hate you and you ask them why and they say they won't tell you. Nutso.

I moved from Victoria to Katy in 1996. Heck, most subdivisions here are bigger than Victoria!
But it's a good place to live.
-
I lived off of Katy Hockley Cutoff and Morton Ranch. When we had our house built, there was nothing out there... *BOOM* We couldn't see the stars at night anymore due to the light pollution... houses everywhere... Katy Mills went in, Walmart... that really changed the area. The Brookshire Brothers was THE place until then... LOL!!!
Where I live now is like what Katy was going thru... except at a larger scale... schools aren't near as good... people aren't as friendly either.

If I replied in my usual "shop floor" manner, this topic would head to the arena real fast!
On a side note, yes I've met some fine folks from the state of Texas & we've got friends that live in the DFW area. Yes, there's also some beautiful scenery around the Big Bend area!
But, more than not; big state = big egos. Ex: while driving along the perimeter road of Grand Lake Colorado quite a few yrs. ago, my brother pointed out one of the lakeside homes w/ 3 ft tall neon light on the side of the home up near the peak of the roof, that was shaped in the outline of the state of Texas. He was living there at the time & told me that it's on year round & visible from miles away. Felt sorry for the neighboring cottages.
-
Well I am glad to know that small states don't have idiots living there. Maybe I'll move there one day.
-
I thoroughly enjoyed living in San Antonio for 4 years. Visiting Rudy's in Leon Springs on the weekends was a great time. And Fiesta Texas was loads of fun. (Yeah, I was still a kid then)
-
I love Texas. I cannot wait until my duties in the grey frozen midwest are over so I can move back.

I think I will move to Detroit :o
-
My wife and I moved to the Detroit area in 1993 for some training and lived in Sterling Heights for 2 years. On our first weekend there, after unloading the moving truck, we went to a Pizza Hut around 8 mile Rd. around 10 PM on a Friday night. All of a sudden the kids from behind the counter panicked and began locking all of the doors. We did not know if they were the criminals and it was a hold up or what. We found out that there was a crime in progress in the neighborhood and they did not want to become victims. We never went back. We however thoroughly enjoyed the many great restaurants there and love the west coast of Michigan. All states have problems but so far in Texas we feel fairly comfortable.

I know this is an old Forum, but I am new, from Texas, and PROUD of it. Only place I know of that I was required to wear a Cowboy hat as part of the uniform (Sheriff's Deputy). I also marvel at the ability to leave Galveston, and not get out of the greater Houston area, and it looks like one constant city for over two hours with no traffic, and then you are no longer below sea level....you are in the hills. Its hot, and mosquitos are the size of crows, but I LOVE it. Hit me up if you are from the Houston, Alvin Pearland area.
-
One minor correction to the list. Sugar Land is two words not one.
Sorry, had to do it. :)

Just curious, do the people in Texas keep forgetting what their state looks like? When I was in Texas, there was a picture or outline of the state plastered on every flat surface, I'm not sure why...... ;D
Just havin' some fun with our Texas members..... Live where you like, and like where you live is my motto.

It's because we keep forgetting it's really not like this... :rotflmao:

I'm going off roading/ADV riding with a group in TX in October in Lake Whitney area, the weekend after a Death Valley CA camping/ADV trip :D
-
I've got a brother and a sister living in Austin. I also go there on business a couple of times a year. I really like visiting and riding the hill country. I also like Rudy's but we have one in Colorado Springs now. Texas is just too hot for me in the summer. But if Texas ever decides to secede I'll move there.
-
Rhino - I find it funny when people complain about Summer heat here in CO... being from Houston, w/ 100% humidity and 100* days... I love Summers here! The white Winters, not so much... but Spring thru Fall... love it! 8)
-
Welcome to Texas Mojoh. We are glad to have you. I've leaved here my entire life except for two years in the mid west. I'm very glad to be home.
-
I thought Texas was in the midwest.
