NEW DELHI (AP) — The hours-long gang-rape and near-fatal beating of a 23-year-old student on a bus in New Delhi triggered outrage and anger across the country Wednesday as Indians demanded action from authorities who have long ignored persistent violence and harassment against women.
In the streets and in Parliament, calls rose for stringent and swift punishment against those attacking women, including a proposal to make rapists eligible for the death penalty. As the calls for action grew louder, two more gang-rapes were reported, including one in which the 10-year-old victim was killed.

I understand that other countries have their own beliefs and value systems, but it is unimaginable that in this day and age, that this sort of crime can go unpunished. Did you read the article?? A 10 year old girl, gang raped by 4 men and then thrown in a canal to die. That takes a special kind of f'd up person to commit an act like that on a child!
On a lighter note, if you read the article, who couldn't help but crack a smile when you read the name of ......... Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

Funny how these countries where crimes like this happen have been the last week pointing their fingers at us. Many of us here can not ever begin to understand the cultures and practices of other countries.

Under Sharia law the men doing the gang rape would get a slap on the wrist and the 10 year old girl if she had survived would get stoned to death.

I'm not all that familiar with the laws, but it would not surprise me if that was in fact true.
