Title: I need more wind protection
Post by: eng943 on October 28, 2012, 07:21:09 AM
I went for a ride with my new Cee Bailey Extra Tall Ultra Tour, and still felt too much wind on my arms. I was surprised the shield was as narrow as it is. Any suggestions for a set up that delivers max wind protection?

There are dozens of existing threads/topics about replacement windshields....

I appreciate that. I have read those threads recently, and lead me to the conclusion the CBETUT would be the best option. Maybe a set of the Project D wings will get some of the wind off my arms.

Thank you

On mine, I installed a Cal-scientific,  the Large-max wide model,, i think it does real good, and ive been driving bike a couple of times in the low twenty's to work,,(25 mile commute)  The aero-dynamics, of the bike is such that i feel alot of air on my upper back and neck, so i have to make sure to have good jacket, helmet, sealing..... when its that cold i where my snowmobile balaclava under helmet, which covers neck and upper shoulders.....

I think I need a bigger windshield also, so I am going to have to look through the stuff again, myself ,at some point.

Y'all with your barndoor sized shields, you realize this is a motorcycle right? Give Baker handwings a try, they help distribute the air not block it.

I recommend Flathead's wind deflectors.  They keep the wind off your hands and lower arms.  Great in cold weather. I take them off in the Spring and put them back on when it gets cooler; re-installed them last week.

I have the CalSci Wide X-Large. I think it's the biggest screen you can get. It creates a nice pocket for both rider and passenger. Looks pretty good too for a big shield. It's a bit flimsy at highway speeds but all in all the best shield I've tried and I've tried a few.

Sounds like some of you bought the wrong bike.  I picked up a stock '08 windshield and ride with it in the low position and love it.  Now I get the proper amount of wind on my chest to hold me up so I can relax my core muscles a little.  Plus my helmet is now in clean air so no buffetting.

Projekt D, Motax, or Flathead's hand wings all work great. I have the Motax, they're all about the same, Flathead doesn't make his any longer.

I agree with some gentlemen here regarding the fact that you're driving a bike. For a no-wind experience there are many cagers that cost much less than this bike.

There was a member long ago that installed a Goldwing windshield on his C14. That may be an option. Either that or a winter beater cage you can drive with the windows down.

I actually do still make them, just not promoting them as much due to being swamped at work.

OP: PM me if interested or for additional pics/pricing.  ;)

well my old Vstrom 1000 would not go 155 mph, and was not as smooth as this connie, plus had a messy noisey chain, and it didn't have these nice hand warmers either, for going to work at 20* or so.....  I'd say i bought the perfect bike for how and where i ride......

No, too much area to cover with my design without a metal bracket, like the motax wings, and I don't have the tools to fabricate the brackets. However, if anyone needs replacement plastic for the motax I'd be happy to help.
