Today while riding home from church for just a moment while going 30 mph in 2nd gear the digital display went blank and then displayed "FI" for a few seconds then the standard screen came back on. There was no change in the engine operation and if I hadn't been looking at the display I wouldn't have seen that happen.
Anybody have anything like this happen. My inclination is to just keep riding and not worry a bit. But just curious if this has happened to anyone else?

I would bet we have all experienced it. Once I was on a ride with another C14 and we both had it happen at the same time. I believe it is some sort of radio or other electromagnetic interference that reacts with the ecu thru the kipass system.
Nothing to be concerned with.

Just Kawasaki being Kawasaki. Light comes on for no reason, KiPass fixes it...and on and on.
Mine's been doing it for 63,000 miles intermittently ;D

Thanks DGOLD! Very happy with this bike coming from a FJR AE model!!!!!

Multiple threads on this subject. All 2010 and later seem to do it with no ill effect every once in a while.

Thanks Rhino! I will look/Google before asking again. Good to know other threads are out there covering this topic.
Thanks again to all!!

You don't have to use search. Try reading The Interesting Facts pages....

Mine has also done it a number of times. It happens so fast I sometimes wonder if I really saw the red light flash, but then I see the "F1" come up for a few seconds. No harm - no foul.

I used to see "F1" flash on the screen momentarily but now I mostly see "GP" and sometimes "Nascar".

Happened to me this morning for the first time. I have 13,000 km on the bike (2010). I was wondering if it may be caused buy a dirty air filter. Just a thought. one of my friends has the Verseys and changed his filter (about the same km's) and it was plugged. Seems that if air/fuel mix is wrong you may get a FI error. I may be completely wrong but maybe something to think about.

Mine's done it 14 times that I've documented, the first at 298 miles. Not likely caused by the air filter.
General consensus has been that it's caused by a communication error (possibly collision) on the CAN bus. Also, Kawi states strong external RF interference can cause it.
Personally, I think they failed to exercise all the demons out of the bikes, though they did better on some than others. ;)

I just got back from a two week trip that ended up at the Great American Beer Fest in Denver.
In Wyoming, bf Egypt, it came on several times. That was scary as uh, where is a kawa dealer in Wyoming???
The other thing that really pissed me off was that in denver, the KTRC error came on and kept flashing "KTRC ERROR" over and over, all the functions of the LCD screen were taken over by that. WTF was wrong with my KTRC?
Drove it for 30 minutes like that, then parked it at my motel. I restarted bike later and it was gone, never returned the whole trip.

I agree that it's not the air filter. My air filters stay very clean, and this started on my bike with less than 5,000 miles on it and it has come on again about 6,000 miles after we changed the filter. I had a filter on my FJR that did not need changing even at over 40,000 miles.

When my bike was new (2011) it got 3 FI errors within the first month or so. I'm guessing the system was working out the bugs, and such. Haven't seen one since at it's been about 17K miles now and one year later.

If you guys would read the manual, you would see that the FI means, Funds Inquiry, it appears because your payment is OVERDUE!
