Title: leaking radiator
Post by: berts law on October 09, 2012, 07:42:00 PM
Just back from Big Bend National Park. It was 1750 miles round trip.  As we were purchasing our entry permit, I look down and see Bill's 09 C14 spraying a stream of coolant on his front tire.  We are in BFE, at least 60 miles from help if any existed for this problem.  Our buddy Gorden says lets find some ground black pepper.  We did at the welcome center.  Off came the tupperware, into the radiator went a small hand full of black pepper, and ten miles later, leak is plugged!  The temp gauge read normal and Bill made the 800 mile trip home with no other problems.

- didn't know black pepper works that way.

- another trick is to have fast setting two part steel epoxy on hand for long rides. Wait for water to drain and dry out the leaking part , then apply the epoxy.

not fine ground pepper.  Ordinary table pepper.  for us in Big Bend,  whatever we could get our hands on!

Phil,
The original site didn't "implode" it was destroyed.  My guess, it was part of the agreement with COG to destroy the 'more popular technical site'.  :(
We lost TONS of good info.
