Title: Replacement front rotors
Post by: Toxz Qwaste on September 12, 2012, 12:58:12 PM
Is anyone using the EBC contour plus rotors? If so, what's your experience with them? I've read some threads about the "cheap chinese" ones and may go that route but I'm looking at my options. I'm staying with the stock size on my '02.
Thanks

I've been running the "cheap Chinese" on my '86 for a while, no problems so far.

I hestate to trust anything critical to Chinese manufacture. According to their web page, EBC makes all their parts in either the US or UK -- a feature I always look for (even if I don't often find it). Supposedly, the petal edge provides more leading edges for the brake pads to see -- I don't know, it looks too small to actually do that.

If you order the EBC pads along with your rotors EBC will now guarantee them not to warp.

I wouldn't be too fearful of Chinese manufacture, they can build anything to specification. Just depends on the specification. Most heavy duty industrial electrical motors are made in China for many brands. Same applies for other equipment. Years ago anything built in Japan was rubbish, not so nowdays. China is the new Japan. Many on this website as well as others have used these rotors without issue. The stainless steel is grade 420 and is the right material as it's hardenable.

Just turned over 120,000 kms on my 1990 and the rotors need replacing.   Where's a good source to get the Chinese rotors?

I have only had them on for a week, but they sure work better than the old warped rotors I had. I hope they last as well as the originals (62,000 miles). You can't beat the price when you start looking at OEM or EBC.
