Title: Helmets: Solid or Graphics?
Post by: JetJock on May 26, 2011, 08:10:53 AM
What it says. Ran this on the old forum (RIP)  :-[

When it went to Cyber Hell, the tally was about 50/50 . . . which proves I'm not sure what.

I've changed this so you can vote TWICE, since most of us have more than one skid lid.

Pictures if you got 'em.

I never have graphics on my lids... seems squidly.

My current "boring" Nolan, in flat black. Just snapped it, the Sena headset is charging:

I like graphis but not necessarily "look at me flashy" type. This one matches my 2011 perfectly and looks cool to boot.

I've got the exo 500 in the black oil graphics to match my black 09. This is an awesome helmet.

I bought a HJC with designs with a blue motif to kinda match the bike with the fastest color in the C-10 world.

However, I mainly bought a patterned helmet so that drivers can tell when my head moves right away.  I want their attention ASAP 'cuz they ain't using it all the time.

I prefer solid colors, mainly matte black.  My one exception is my blue Scorpion Exo 400 which has the I guess you call the tribal design on it, but the only reason I got it was I needed a helmet for snowmobiling (double windshield) last minute and it was the only design they had in my size and gave it to me dirt cheap and I ended up using it on my bike for a bit as well.

I use to have mulitple helmets, different color schemes for my different bikes...

But once I got my Scala G4 and my H.A.R.D helmet display light for my radar detector I now only have a solid black helmet so that it can go with any bike and I don't have to mess with constantly changing my helmet farkles back and fourth...

"Topic: Helmets: Solid or Graphics?"

BOTH!  Scorpion EXO "Sublim" design, which is a two-tone helmet with a subliminal graphic (a very faint one).  You get the best of both worlds :)

Graphics - I buy last seasons graphics to save a few dollars compared to the solids.  The graphics I buy are more visible than the solid colors I like; black/silver.  Safety first for me.

Graphics are a little more interesting. I have a carbon fiber blue that suits my 2010 C-14. My last helmet was a Rock Hard AC/DC helmet. I got so many comments on that helmet. I'd like them to make a Metallica helmet.

Does "Roll my own" include a stock helmet that has fallen off the bike a couple of times? It has 'custom' nicks and scratches in a unique pattern.....

Is this like 'distressed' jeans where if the manufacturer rips and stains them it doubles the price but if I do it I have simply ruined a pair of pants?

Graphics.  Currently wearing a HJC chrome w/ black graphics.  Highly visible, which is what I am wanting.  Shines like a diamond in a goats ass and can be seen for a mile.

Previously I wore flat black, if anything at all.  (transition from HD sportbike to sport tourer.)

RF1100 in Axis Yellow.  There are precious few graphic helmets that I like ENOUGH to want to have it for 5 years.  There are plenty I think are COOL.  Just not so cool that I'd want to wear it for 5 years.

I like the black and white contrast for added visibility.  It's not Hi-Viz lime green, but it's better than nothing. I like the internal shield too.

Silver Schuberth C3 to match the bike. Thought about the high-vis yellow, but my friends would've given me too much crap. Getting older, actually consider saftey now a days. Agree with the poster that said he's trying to avoid to PD's attention by wearing a loud helmet. Go Irish!

I have both. I have a SHOEI RF1100 with graphics, and a BELL Star in a solid, only because I didn't really care for any of BELL's graphic helmets, not to mention it was on clearance, so there wern't too many to choose from. This is the SHOEI I have....matches my '10 pretty good, i think.

I voted flashy, read somewhere once where the flashy made it easy to see the rider....then again if I had the cash I'd get the Ironman Helmet.

I voted "Roll Your Own"...

I go solid, then I'll usually add a few stickers along the way.  I like to stay with white helmets... LEO looking, they stand out... tend to stay cooler in the sun... but this time around, my EXO-900 when it first came out, silver was the lightest color available, so that's what I have until I buy new lid.

It has a ROK sticker, and 2 memorial stickers of rider/friends of mine.

Silver SHOEI RF1100. Black (to match the fast-black '11) is just too hot for me here in Texas. Been there, done that.

Even though I voted "graphics" since that's what I prefer, I now have my eye on an Arai in "Diamond Blue" which is a good match for the 2010 BLUE (independently tested and proven to be the fastest color).

I gotta find a picture of it . . .

I think you're the new version of me! I have a silver RF-1000, a black '09 and I live in Texas. To echo your sentiments, black (or anything dark) just does not work in the Texas sun.

I had graphics helmets when I rode sportbikes, but went to the (boring) solids when I bought the Connie.

What does it say about you when you find the first quality helmet you ever owned is now on sale on eBay as a "VINTAGE" Shoei RF-200? It was the newest, latest, and greatest when I picked it up.

It was black and I learned my lesson after that! Too hot in Texas.

Solid is for the street/highway, and graphics is for the dirt/Dual Sport.
I thought everybody knew that.
I'm sure it's a law that can only be legally disregarded when the alternative is to ride without a helmet.  :)

I always get the brightest, splashiest graphics I can find-usually a racer replica.  I want to be seen, I want to be noticed. I'm not trying to blend in with the scenery, cagers have a hard enough time 'seeing' motorcyclists, why be subdued and subtle.  Just my philosophy.

Max...

If it will make you happy I will go out today and find two red bulbs and put in my rear turn signal indicators....I thought i had ENOUGH red light back there!

You are un-relenting.....

State trooper was behind me yesterday...for many miles.......

Volusia County Deputy was behind me this morning on way to ride......

Orange City police were behind me last Sunday morning all thru town.........

Lake County Sheriff's Deputy behind me early afternoon yesterday during my Sunday morning ride....

No one has any issues with my yellow bulbs.......except YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have a life?
Ever been in police work?
Ever wanted to be a cop?
Do you stay awake at night worrying about my yellow bulbs wishing I had red bulbs?

Are we done with this thread now?

Please......!
