Title: CAM CHAIN QUESTION
Post by: F-106 on September 02, 2012, 10:16:32 PM
I have owned my 06 for 18 months now. We all know this is not the quietest motor in the world when cold. Since I have owned the bike I always have heard the cam chain slap and quiet down after warmup. The other morning I wheeled the bike out to go to work. I started the bike with full choke and started to hear the cam chain slap as normal. Then about 5 sec into the warmup I felt something click and the motor got quiet and smoother than I ever felt it. I took it for granted it was the tensioner click but I never had it click and quiet the motor this much before. My question is this. Is it likely the tensioner went too far. The bike runs great and sounds smooth even when cold. THANKS

That is the way it is designed to work, you should be fine.  JD

Mine didn't work the first time so I did a reset. Been working correctly for 96,000 mile now.

I agree, this is the way the cam chain tensioner is supposed to work, I have had this happen two times and it was on cold winter morning startups when it popped out enough to quiet down the noise and run way smoother.
