Title: street boots whos using what?
Post by: h2smokin on May 25, 2011, 06:50:49 PM
Any recommendations? I have a pair of sidi daytonas but they just dont work with connie due to full shin guards. Looking for something waterproof and taller than ankle high boots but flexible. Thanks for any input

I have a pair of Alpinestars Recon boots.  I love them as they are both waterproof and flexible, however they stopped making them a couple of years ago.  I took them on a three day trip through torrential downpours and had to step in standing water more than once and they stayed dry the entire time.

The replacement is the Alpinestars Ridge.  It looks like they did away with the laces for easier on / off but overall the fit looks the same.  When my boots finally fall apart I'll probably pick up a pair.  My only warning is these are OK to walk in, but if you plan on spending an afternoon walking around town, bring a pair of shoes.

Alpinestar Ridge. They're not shin high, but they're higher than ankle height. My Tourmaster pants cover the tops okay but I pull them down at the occasional traffic light. My size 13 ran true. Stiff at first, but after a few trips, they're quite comfortable. Haven't tried the waterproofing yet.

Sidi Laguna. Best, most comfortable boot I ever put on my feet, work or play. Size 13 fit perfect, excellent quality and Gore Tex lined. Walk around comfort out of the box.

Tourmaster Solution waterproof.  I've had my pair for several years and they're still in great shape. Very comfortable.

Mine are the older pair (before the 2.0 model), buy I can't find them anymore in my size.  If I ever wear them out, I'll get the 2.0's.

I recently bought a pair of Alpinestars Soho touring boots.
They have a more traditional boot sole, full leather uppers and are goretex lined. I am getting them broke-in and it looks like they are going to meet my needs for a boot that I can wear all day long, day after day for extended trips, allow my feet to breathe and keep the rain out. More comfortable than my Sidi boots, better protection than my Cruiserworks and drier than my Joe Rocket Revolution waterproof (not) boots.

I'm happy with these so far,  http://www.redwingshoes.com/red-wing-shoe/971-red-wing-shoes/971-red-wing-mens-6-inch-boot-black (http://www.redwingshoes.com/red-wing-shoe/971-red-wing-shoes/971-red-wing-mens-6-inch-boot-black)

The good: waterproof, steel toe protection, inseam enhancment and they look like just regular boots when worn with jeans.

The bad: The laces need corralling if not wearing pants long enough to cover them when one's leg is bent.

These are the best touring boots I've ever owned.  Can handle temperature extremes, they are light, and you actually can walk around in them all day long, and for long distances with no problem (I've actually worn them mountain hiking before.)

And I can also personally attest that they are very protective, too.

When I first saw them I didn't think they would be waterproof, thinking that it was flow through ventilation, but it isn't, but you get enough air against the liner to make it cooler.  You can really tell on a cold morning  ;)

SWAT 8" tactical boots by Bates with inside zipper. they have reinforced soles and are nearly waterproof. also MUCH cheaper than fancy motorcycle boots, i.e. just over $100.

I have the Oxtar version of this boot - basically the same boot.  100% water-proof, proven, and comfy enough to walk in all day.  I can not say enough good about this boot for a STREET boot.

This is NOT a good off-road boot.  It's shin high, and a good street boot, but it is no off-road worth.

I have had two pairs of BMW "All Around" boots (I think that is what they are called).  I have a very wide foot with a high instep and they are the only boots I've found that fit me well and I like the looks and feel of.  I wore a pair of "Solutions" for almost a year, but they never did loosen up enough to be comfortable.  They seemed to be a nice boot and well made for the money.

Danner USMC Rat boots.  They're spendy but oh so comfortable for riding/walking all day.  The traction is fantastic and my tootsies stay dry and happy rain or shine (Seattle-Tacoma area).  The EGA embossed on the outboard heel cap isn't bad either.  They're made in America and Danner will swap out your boots for free (shipping) until you get the right size.  The sizing is 100% Mil-Spec so order the size that you used to wear back in the day...

Two downsides:  the light olive/brown coloring is subject to marring and staining, and the laces feel flimsy but function perfectly (tied and tucked in 30 seconds).

I don't pack extra footwear, so I really needed a boot that could do anything.

I just bought my second pair of these boots.  I had the first pair for 5 years and the zipper broke (I was fiddling with it, my fault!).  Best boots ever for $100 bucks!  Waterproof in the WORST of rain, ALL day comfort (I wear them at work), they don't 'look' like a bike boot (so I get away with them in the office).  And best of all they zip up!  Lace them once then zip in zip out! That's enough of a commercial (I have nothing to do with this company!) they are just good boots! http://www.ridgeoutdoors.com/_product_65677/8003ALWP_Mid_Side_Zip_All_Leather_Waterproof (http://www.ridgeoutdoors.com/_product_65677/8003ALWP_Mid_Side_Zip_All_Leather_Waterproof)

When these wear out, I'll likely get another pair.

Although I wish I can get one of those fancy motorcycle boots.....alas....

Right now, good`ol work boots.  I've been trying to buy a pair of Tour Master's Solution 2 boots for over a month now, but NO ONE has them in stock in my size and everyone's telling me they won't be getting any until sometime in August or September.  The 2's were new for 2011, so I really doubt they'd be doing an update already that would be causing the delay.

Mine are US size 13's which the boot tag says is a Eur 47 or a Jpm 30.5. I wear an average width in most shoes of size 13. They're snug as I guess they should be in the forefoot area, but comfortable enough after a break in period.

A US 13 is actually a 48--or should be.  I own a pair of Alpinestars size Eur 48 boots and they fit much better.  I've been ordering 48 since then and haven't had any problems with fit.  I've always worn a solid size 13 US.  Just FYI.

Probably a round off error. Maybe that's why they're snug. My size 13 Vasque hiking boots are much roomier. Metric conversions are inexact. Good info.

No problem.  I've had the same problem with European manufactured shoes.  It was a complete fluke that I even found out that the 48 was the proper size.  I don't even go by what the tag says.  I just ask for a 48.

My recently damaged sidi vertigo corsa's are in need of replacement.  Looks like that boot is no longer available and has been replaced by the vertice model (and a higher price tag).  Anyone use this new model or is familiar with it?  The online videos show it to have quite a bit of adjustment.  I had no problems with the old boot's nylon strap across the foot area.  The new ones seems to have 3 now that you must attach/remove to mount/dismount the boot.

My foot width is a c/d and my Alpinestars in size 11 fit me great so they might be a little narrow.

Had a pair of Sidi Stradas for years and years. I liked them so much I bought the vented version last year. Just noticed a thread coming unraveled on the heel cup so I E-mailed Moto Nation the USA distributor. They had me send them in and shipped me a new pair of the latest model  :o
They have a lifetime warranty, just be sure to keep the UPC off the box and or your receipt. Great comfort, light weight, good protection. I may never buy another brand.
Here's a review on web bike world with my comments and pics of the old boots  at the bottom.

I had no issues shifting with the vertigo corsa's ( http://tinyurl.com/5rzk4al (http://tinyurl.com/5rzk4al) ).  The ankle support/stabilization is part of the selling features of the boot.  The boot prevents your ankles from being hyper extended or compressed.  In fact, had it not been for this, I would of had more severe injuries to that area of the foot.  Come to think of it, had the boot been taller, I probably would not have suffered the burns to the calf area either (from hot exhaust).

Flashy or not, the boot did its job.  Unless i'm in full leathers, I normally wear my touring pants over the boot, so all you really see is the bottom portion.

Definetely going to have to pay up and get myself a nice pair.   I currently wear some Dr Maertens.   Comfy, but not high enough for water protection and nothing ruins a day of riding in the rain like wet feet.

The boots in post #53 finally arrived.  Haven't had a chance to actually ride in them, but they sure do take alot longer to put on than those they replaced (vertigo corsa's).  Fit seems to be slightly better too.

With all the holes in the upper, I do expect it them to breath better than those with no holes.  Walking in them?   Forget about it.  They are comfortable though when sitting on the bike.

I am wearing Harley Davidson black Sonar 6" lace up boots...they have a zipper up the inside of the boot, so that once you have the laces tied up the way you want them you only need to use the zipper from then on...this makes them extremely easy to put on and take off...an added bonus is that they are extremely comfortable, I could wear them all day...they came with a little metal tag on the back of the heel which had the Harley name in chrome, which I immediately removed...they cost $135.00 but since I have really high arches it is hard for me to find a boot that fits and thes really fit nice...

I ended up purchasing the TCX X-Five plus Goretex boots. They are very comfortable and well made. The TCX have a reasonably wide foot bed. I wear a size 12 wide and ordered their size 46. They fit great. What I appreciate about them is they are comfortable enough to walk around in. I got mine from Revzilla. They are very good to deal with.

Did the Hardly-Ableson boots slow you down any?

I went away from M/C boots and got a pair of Danner Arecadia's. I own a 09 and the heat problem. With rhese boots the heat doesn't get in to the feet. There is two levels of insolation. I like the red ones. Check out www.shoebuy.com (http://www.shoebuy.com). There is a 10% discount with free shipping right now. They an't cheap either but ese boots require little break in and are comfy all day. They would protect your foot and ankle if you go down.   Tim from the PNW

well now that you mention it...when I am in the house with the HD boots on, I move very slowly on completing my "Honey-Do" list. When on the Connie, I don't notice any slow down...yet

Thats good to know ... i want more leg protection from my boots ... will have to try a pair on!  thanks
