Title: 023 to pr3 tires exercised in the Wisconsin alphabets
Post by: JS_racer on August 20, 2012, 04:34:36 AM
hey guys, i have run many sets of 023 stones and have been very pleased with them. well after another track day Friday, i had the pr3 tires installed. first noticed the pr3 sucks up small cracks and imperfections in the road better than the 023 does. the 023 felt harsher but not bad. The 023 have always performed great for me, aggressive, but no racer here. most of a weekend day is spent pounding the twisties on the Wisconsin alphabet roads. the pr3 felt every bit as good, nothing unexpected. i bought these a month or two ago just for a mileage comparison mainly. My 023 i would get say 4k out of a rear, and 6k out of the front.
my rear has been a 55 the last few tires, i will never want to go back to a 50. its just that much better for a guy that likes to turn.  ;)

Joel

PS: also saw 2 c14 i think on O or something around there mid afternoon. red 09 and blue 10 i think. i was cookin pretty good with a few sport bike guys but I saw the point and wave. (i would like to hook up with riders not on 35 and 61 loop, lol)

Thought about using a 200/50, until I stood it against a 190/55. 55 for me, always.  8)

well, a few more miles on the pr3, super happy with them. i have about 2k on the front, and 1k on the rear. rides well, handles well, felt good pushing some in the rain. (my 023 i was happy with too, just rode a tic firmer)
now that im done with the warm and fuzzies, my concern is that my front is at 4/32 rear at 6/32 (sure wish i measured them new) and tire life may be very poor for me,  :( like usual

Because of all the sipes in the PR3 they seem to run 'softer' than other tires. I found you can pump them up to 42 or 44 psi each and extend the tread life. They still feel great and stick @ max pressure.   YMMV ;)

(note) I use 2 gauges to check pressure occasionally because several times they end up different.

Why

a) why would you want inferior handling tire (or did you not set suspension, etc to the taller profile)?
b) why can't you go back?

Oops thanks. I was reading too hard into the topic plus a dash of scatter-brained. And of course "I would never" go off topic yanno LoL

on my 7th or eighth set of pr3's on my 09 c14, usually get between 7 and 8k on the rears.I always change both anyway, even though the fronts still have quite a bit of tread left.really like them, I still run the 50's,they get scuffed to the edge,so they handle well for me. :)
