Advice and Opinions Please
« on: February 25, 2021, 08:20:26 PM »
I have a 2008 Concours 14 with 22K on the odometer. Flies have been removed, Power Commander V installed, original paint, always garaged, new EverStart battery. Chrome M/C Enterprises Canyon Cages. The bike runs great. Should I sell as is? The brakes are not linked, never had em and never will. Or should I keep? I still enjoy this bike but I'm getting long in the tooth.

If you want to keep riding but you starting to get uncomfortable with such a heavy bike get something lighter.

I am not sure how we are supposed to determine what your opinion should be...

It all depends on what you want, and as others have said, that's a personal decision we can't help with.
You could sell it, miss it, and then buy another. But that other could have been mistreated and be a heap, or as loved as yours has been.
If you don't need the money and are going to enjoy it, why sell it?
If you need a lighter bike and can't afford both, sell it and get something else.
The way I feel at the moment, they can have my motorcycles after they've cremated me, but people change and one day I might decide to sell all my bikes and bits. I'm more likely to spontaneously change into a 6'4" daffodil though.  :rotflmao:

If you sell it, I would probably sell it as is. The only accessories you could easily sell are the Canyon Cages. If you are feeling as if it is too heavy now, you probably would get more enjoyment out of something lighter. In that respect, you may be better off selling it, or trading it for something else. I get that too, I am only 56, but at times I would rather have something lighter. Of course I still enjoy the Concours as well, but a lighter bike can be very enjoyable.

I am 68. Since retirement I have spent a lot of time at the gym. I think it has paid off as I can lift a good bit more weight than when I started. But it doesn't seem to show when it comes to moving the Concours around! I have added a Ducati 950 and a BMW 1200 both of which are much lighter and noticeably. My 08C14 has 98000 so I could not get much for it.

One of my old biker friends is 102. He kept riding until he was 92. Downsized from a 1150 BMW to a Suzuki 650. Finally gave it up when his eyes failed him.

At least you're closer to the ground if you fall over.

Yes indeed and I don't go all the way to the ground either...   Don't ask me how I know this.

Because you are confident you will be raptured before hitting the pavement.

Not really, these are basically stopped, fall down, go boom.  Get up, cuss, and then try to pick up the Beast..

Don't go slow. They're only heavy at low speed.

Seriously though, if it's the balance part of it there may be ways to work on sharpening that skill.

All the best.

Yes, there are ways of course...so far I'm finding them elusive.
