It's been over 100 degrees here for the last few days and the only time my fan kicks in is when I have to stop for a long light or at the bank drive-thru. My fan doesn't come on unless the temp gauge gets one block above the half-way point (I have an '09 model), and that's the highest my temp gauge has ever gotten.

So far, I haven't had any apparent overheating issues sitting at stoplights in 100+ degree weather but it bothers me a little bit that the owner's manual has a specific limitation on how long you can idle at a stop (5 minutes) due to cooling system limitations.  I don't recall that being a problem on any other water cooled bike I've owned.

I can attest to the cooling effects of the radiator in Hotlanta stuck in stop and go (more stop than go) traffic.  I never saw the bars go all the way to the top.  However if the wind is just right, the hot air can blow right on you!
I have since moved to Myrtle Beach, and summer traffic there sucks too.....

I know what you mean about heat. I'm visiting Denver from Phoenix and forgot how much I missed the roads out here. I'm actually staying in Arvada and ride west every day so far. Really enjoyed coal creek canyon and peak to peak.

If you are in Arvada, get to the Western slope.  Less traffic and great roads!
