Title: Engine - Interference or non?
Post by: Nosmo on February 05, 2021, 11:11:16 AM
The question comes from a guy over on "the other"forum".   We've given him some suggestions how to check it but so far no on has replied with an absolute yes or no.

His cam chain broke and he's replacing it, and he's wondering about valve/piston damage, the big question is are the C-10 engines "interference"type or "non-interference"?  I've done a lot of stuff to my own mill but mostly small mods, nothing internal that required pulling cams or the head.  It looks to me that the reliefs in the piston heads could give the valves room to clear, making it a "non-interference" engine.  If so, then the guy asking the question will not have to worry about damage due to the broken cam chain.  Any info that could help him out would be nice.  Thanks in advance.

As far as I remember this is an interference engine.

C10 and C14 both have interference engines. If the camchain snapped he will need to inspect the pistons with a borescope as a minimum. If the valves have hit the pistons it will be obvious on the pistons.

Thanks for the confirmation, guys.  I'll post him a link to this thread.
