Title: FS: '08 C14, $3000. 97k miles Savannah...
Post by: dolomoto on June 22, 2016, 11:03:55 AM
$3000.

2008 Concours 14, 97,000 miles, clear Georgia title on hand. CB Euro Tour windscreen, Fenda Extenda, heated grips. Flies out, PC III, K&N, Area P carbon fiber slip-on. Runs great.

New rear Bridgestone BT021, front PR4GT has about 2-3k miles left. Garage kept and in good condition except for the saddlebags from a zero MPH tipover (car backed into me). Horn is disconnected ( had stebels on but removed them, haven't put stock horns back on).

EBC front rotors and pads. Oil always Rotella synthetic.

Would not hesitate to ride it to Newfoundland again.

For a bike with nearly 100k miles, I have to say that it's very clean! That's gotta be reassuring to a potential buyer. Obsessive owners make the best sellers...  GLWS

As a gen 1 C14 owner with obvious experience with the bike, can you let us know what the valve inspections/adjustments were like over these approximately 6 interval periods?  Anything get really unusual over the years and miles? I ask this as a new 2009 C14 owner looking at his first valve inspection...  Thanks in advance!

The only valve inspection was at 36k miles. None were out of spec, all set to middle/loose end of the spec.

If I keep it, I will do another valvae inspection soon and r/r the usual gaskets.

Wow..  maybe I spoke too soon! Ha!

I'm all for touting the reliability of Japanese machinery, but I still think the valves should be checked a little closer to factory recommended intervals. My opinion anyway..

Good luck!

as long as the valves are with in specs he is good to go... no need to adjust them if they are with in specs.  $3900 is a very good deal for this bike.

You state the obvious. .  And I agree the price is a steal!

My point is based upon the info provided that the first valve inspection was completed at 36k. Even if all was in spec, it doesn't necessarily mean it will remain so as the OP approaches 100k. That mileage means quite a few INSPECTION intervals have been passed since the first. How can you know if valves need adjustment if you don't inspect?

I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but that info is important to know. And this reply was more directed at 'demon' than the OP. Not trying to become argumentative, but that reply was unhelpful.

Carry on..

While yes I believe 60k is a while to go without an valve check, and that the new owner should have this done after purchase, I would be a dollar or a hundred, it will not need a valve job, but only an adjustment. At this price, its still a great deal, especially if you can do your own valve adjustment.

Mine was never repaired after a small crash (another bike hit me) so both sides need some body work and painting or new panels. Given the bike's age and mileage  (100K), there is not much I can do with it; I am certainly not going to repaint / replace the plastic to try and sell it. Here in the northeast at least, high- mileage bikes just do not move because there are always other examples with far less miles for not all that much more money. By the time a bike has 100K on it, it is next to impossible to sell, at least in this area- things may be very different in the south where there is a long riding season. ??

I am packing off 2 and a half KZ1300's today and the C-14 is going to be next on the 'hit list' to go.
