Bridgestone S11- Spitfires
« on: June 13, 2011, 07:35:03 PM »
Ok....don't shoot the messanger.
Iron Pony in Columbus, Oh. has the S11's on sale right now.

150/90 x 16 for $94 and the 110/90 x 18 for $53. I know they are a little tall, but at  $147 a pair, for the frugals who need tires, me, these could be a pretty good buy.

I used to run these on an old Wing a 900 Custom and a few other bikes. Bridgestone claims to have updated this tire with newer rubber compound, a steel belt or two and better center wear.
Is or has anyone run these lately on thier beloved Connies?
Any help will be appreciated, not bitchin or complainin because it is another tire thread.
Please, keep it simple.
And as always, please ride safe out there.
Greg

I've used Spitfires on my smaller bikes like CX500's, CB750's, KZ750's and XS750's but I've never used them on heavier bikes like the Connies.

Greg,
Giving this some thought after you called last nite, and your previous track record of using them on an older Wing, which IIRC was a bit heavier than the ZG, I would guess that the tires should work out ok......

Being the Spitfire's are belted, there's the Shinko 777 which I CAN recommend & it's $81.99 here;

Also, I mated it with the Shinko 011 Verge up front in the PROPER 120/70ZR-18 sizing & it worked very well...

If you want to match up belted f&r they have the 230 Shinko in the 110/90-18 sizing

The last time I ordered from them, I had the tire in less than 3 days too!

HMMMM.....I'm looking for tires for an old bike, not a Concours though, think I'll check it out, maybe take a ride if they have them. Thanks for the heads up.

I ride with a gent who has a '79 GL1000 Wing and he has gotten as much as 23k miles from a front, 20k from a rear. He's a pretty aggressive rider too, but these things seem to wear like iron, according to him.

That is the type of miles I typically get out of my Metzler 880's.

Dean,  have you run through a set of the Shinko's?  Wondering what mileage you got out of them.

How do you like yours? I thought mine were fine but have read a lot of reviews claiming they are slippery. I have about 14000 on mine. Rear one is about gone. Front has a lot left and not a sign of cupping. I am going to try a little softer tire out next.

Overall I like my 880's. Yes, I'd say they may tend to be a bit slippery, a bit, its not like I'm going 20mph in the rain though. Everything is a trade off, grippy, less miles, not as grippy, wear like iron.
