Why even have a land line? We got rid of ours years ago.
Got rid of our AT&T land line 3 or 4 years ago ... but before doing so I ported the number to Google Voice, so was able to keep my phone number I've had since 1992, and now no monthly fees ... $0.00. Calls go thru a tiny box connected to our internet connection, so I had to buy that box for something like $40, and buy the cheapest WalMart cell phone I could find ... $7 ... use it one time just for the porting procedure, and when done throw it away. Now, unless you walk into the utility room where our internet comes in to the house, you would have no way of knowing we don't have standard land line service ... even caller ID works thru it.
Do we
need that line? No, not really ... but sometimes I prefer the call quality of that 'land line' vs cell phone. And total cost was ~$50, and just a one-time cost. Like I said, that was 3 or 4 years ago. And ~8 months ago we moved, and the 'land line' works in the new house exactly as before without me doing anything to even configure it. I just brought the little box ... called an Obihai ... with us, plugged it in, and signed up for internet.
