Bike cuts out going into 1st, J-box?
« on: December 04, 2021, 10:19:19 PM »
Got the carbs synchronized and was going to take a test run when the ignition cut out shifting into gear.   :-[ There is no side stand switch just a pigtail the previous owner had taped, unsure if twisted together or kept apart.  There is no voltage coming from the j-box brn/red lead to the side stand connector. I think a diode is bad, followed the test sequence in the shop manual and had no continuity in any!  Took the back off the j-box and found corrosion.  Suggestions?  Source for a good J-Box?

Pic of J-Box.
Can I just bypass the safety interlock garbage?  I mean circuitry?  ;)

To bypass the sidestand cut out completely, you need to
1- Connect all 3 wires in the sidestand switch pigtail together and solder them. Just twisting them can result in crap connections.
2- Connect both wires in the clutch switch together in the same way.

My C10 has been like this for 10+ years.
Get used to occasionally scraping the sidestand as you pull away. <LOL>

If the cause is in your J-Box, then here is Guy Youngs better wiring diagram for the J-Box/C10, so you can diagnose it.

Thanks, I clipped, stripped, and retied the kickstand leads and it worked!  Didn't do anything with the clutch leads yet.
Also found out the multimeter doesn't activate these diodes unless you use the right setting.

Cleaned up the circuit board and sprayed it with engine clear.
