Loose upper fairing.
« on: October 01, 2021, 07:39:20 PM »
I have a 1996 Kawasaki Concours zg1000 that has a loose upper fairing that I don't know what or where to tighten screws or bolts so I need the location of the screws or bolts so I can tighten it up.

Freddy is pretty well spot on. Loose/wobbly main fairing is usually from a loose nut/bolt on the upper fairing stay. The upper fairing stay attaches to the steering stem assembly of the main frame. You can see much of this with an inspection mirror (or good eyes), disassembly of the bike not really needed.

Look for rust 'dust' in this area, indicating the bolt is a tad loose. Tighten as needed, consider upgrading to a grade five or eight, and really clamping it down.

If the bracket that is welded to the steering stem has broken (it happens), weld it back on (or make a new one). TIG advised, MIG will work, so will a stick welder.
