Title: Taking rims and tires off......Question...
Post by: CMH GUY on December 29, 2012, 01:15:02 PM
Hey all...  I am gonna take the rims and tires off sometime this winter and was looking at my Craftsman motorcycle jack and looking at the Connie and thinking, "not sure this is gonna work"  ....  SO I ask what is everyone using to take their rims and tires off the bike?  Am I gonna need a different jack or what??    :)

THANKS!!  And Happy New Yr!
Eric

Center stand and any scissor jack would do just fine!
I use a motorcycle jack like this one to lift front:

You don't even need a jack. I just lift the front up with one hand and slip a 2x4 under the tire, then put a suitable prop under the exhaust. A scissor jack is nice tho for getting the axle height just right for re-installing the wheel.

Same thing I do.

Here's a shot of my bike from yesterday. I'm using the center stand and a scissor jack. The boards are under there for added safety, as are the straps holding the handlebars from up above. Might as well be as safe as possible while doing something a little bit crazy.

I have a Craftsman motorcycle/ATV jack but have never used it on the C14. I do what everyone else said. Center stand and a low profile floor jack to lift the front. I also once put it on the center stand, connected a ratchet strap to luggage rack (I have a metal aftermarket rack) and the other end to a ball hitch on another vehicle and was able to ratchet the front wheel off the ground.
