Title: Building a Harley with my son
Post by: Jeremy Mitchell on September 14, 2011, 08:29:05 PM
Well sort of a Harley, it is a Power Wheels.  I have been telling my wife that I would like to get him a 50cc dirt bike so he can ride in the yard.  She found a Harley with some "potential" all we had to is strip it down and repaint it to make it look a little better.  My son had a blast "helping" me and this is something that I will always remember as our first of hopefully many projects together. I peeled off every single stinkin' sticker and it was a pain in the butt.  I told my wife that the next one is a 68 Camaro with a blown 502, haha.  I ordered some new batteries and a charger so it should work like new once I get everything buttoned back together.

That's probably the best looking Harley I've seen on this forum!

She has a bike, scooter, rollerblades, wii, PSP, cell phone and all the books she can read.  She just wanted to help me work on it.  All three of my daughters actually helped with cleaning and scrubbing all the dirt and grime off of the Harley.  We turned it into a family affair.  I am still shopping for that 50cc dirt bike so the girls can ride too.

At redbarber:
It looks alot better now that it is clean and doesn't have all the gaudy stickers all over it.  I just hope it appeals to my son, which I am pretty sure it will.  He didn't want to even get on my bike yesterday, he just wanted to sit on his Harley even though it doesn't run.......... yet.

I got it finished up tonight. He will be rolling around the driveway tomorrow morning. I can't wait to see his face. I will post some pics of him tomorrow.

Nicely done Jeremy.  Has he decided what color he wants yet?  I'd find some neutron silver, make it just like his dads, only better ;)  Do not let him install a cup holder or tassles.  Youd never get him back.  Start the others out on a quad, see if they really wanna go fast in the dirt, then get a little 70.  If you have enough bikes whenever you make it out this way I have some really cool family friendly trails and room in the boat to take them fishi!

Spend everymoment you can with them, be it wrenchin or working in the shop.  These are their most infomative learning years.
Again, nicely done

We did it in "harley" orange.  He is sleeping in this morning or else I would already have some pictures of him riding.

No cup holders or tassles.  I even painted on an oil leak right by the magneto cover.   ;D  Now I just need to find a drip pan that will fit under this bike since it is a harley I am sure it will find a way to desecrate my garage.   ;)
