Please post museums (all types) that you've visited and liked.  Please don't limit it to just US based.


Air Force museum in Dayton, OH.  8th wonder of the world as far as I'm concerned.  And I am a Foundation member and have been for years.  I don't get there as much as I used to unfortunately.  Free admittance.  You need at least two days to do this museum justice.

Motorcyclepedia museum in Newburgh, NY..  Biggest collection of the Indian brand (53 on back to 1901).  Was there this past Friday.  I was there for three hours photographing them.  Still not enough time to do it justice.  They have many more brands of bikes there but we just didn't have the time.  Plan on spending all day at least if you want to see and study them all.  Screwy hours though so you need to check the website.  Thursday was 5-8pm but it's free.  Other days its $15 a head.  Well worth it in any case.  My advice is to get a hotel close by, go there on Thursday then finish up the next day.

Barber Vintage Motorsports museum in Alabama.  So many exhibits, so little time.  Another wonder of the world.  Been there several times.

Currahee Military museum in Taccoa GA  Airborne.  Stopped there many years ago.  Lots of history.  My dad started his military career there.  Thankfully he washed out and transferred to another division and then battalion otherwise I may not have been here to torment the members.  His war was the Philippines.  Interesting story with this one.  On the way to see the Barber museum with a friend and stopped at a gas station.  Happened to look up and saw a sign to Taccoa.  Said 'Oh sh*t' and pointed at it.  Told Andy we got to go there!  And we did.

The Tank museum in Danville VA.  Lots of tanks and exhibits.  Well worth a day trip or more.  For years working in that area with clients going by the signs and thinking 'Tank museum, what kind of tanks?  Tanks in the ground?  LOL).  I finally figured that out and got to see a 4.2 mortar which is what my Dad worked with in the Philippines WW2.

National Museum of the United States Marine Corp near Quantico is an excellent place to visit just up the road from me.  I've only been there once but I certainly enjoyed the exhibits.

I been to a lot of museums, mostly regional, and I greatly enjoyed my trips to the Smithsonian in DC the most.  A collection of many museums.  Fine art, modern art, pop-culture, air/space, science/geology, history, etc.  Even three trips was not enough to see everything.  I think it probably should be on everyone's "bucket list"... well, at least those who like museums.

Also went to the Spy Museum in DC (not associated with Smithsonian) and enjoyed that as well.
And the National Aquarium in MD, which was also very nice (although I am likely to never step foot in MD again for various reasons).

I can't even remember/list all that I have been to in just Virginia:  Fine Arts museum of VA, Hampton Air/Space, Virginia Beach Aquarium, Jamestown, Mt. Vernon, Thoroughgood House, Yorktown, Williamsburg Living museum, VA Modern Art, Naval Museum in, Bacon's Castle, VA wildlife, Natural Bridge, Cape Henry, VA Science museum, Chrysler MOA, Nauticus, VA Holocaust, Monticello, Luray, MacArthur, Mariners', Maymont, Military Aviation, Valentine, more that I am sure I have been to and can't recall right now.
