Title: Steering locked up
Post by: lather on February 27, 2021, 08:05:33 AM
Riding the 30 miles home from the Gym yesterday I turned left into my gravel driveway and could not staighten the bars and just went down in the gravel.
I believe the Garmin power adapter for my Zumo had fallen off its perch and jammed between the left fork and the intake tube. The adhesive attaching the  adapter had let go of the Velcro and was dangling by its cord.

Check the fairing mount bolts by the neck. There was some early threads on these backing out and blocking steering.

Sorry to hear the terrible news about your bike.
But, more importantly; No one has asked,,, "Are you ok"?

Ride safe, Ted

Thanks for asking! I tweaked my ankle in the fall. I think it is a high ankle sprain but mild. I can walk with a slight limp but can go down stairs normally, have to go sideways. I bought a cheap ankle brace. It seems to be getting better day by day. Started taking the bike apart yesterday to see what I need to replace. After a couple hours of that my back was hurting more than my ankle. lol.

Check the bottom front plastic fairing brace.  I had that break from a standing fall.

If you can find some Canyon Cages they are a good investment. They have saved my bike on three drops & never even a scratch !

Are they hard to find?

One of those two bolts is missing. I checked the crash area for it but did not find it.

I ordered some black abs sticks. They came in today and I went to work with my plastic welder. First I got the separated pieces together held in place with tape. Then I cut 1/8 inch grooves on the split lines on the underside. Then filled the grooves  with melted abs and smeared an extra 16th inch of and on top.

I didn't know you could buy ABS sticks. Did my plastic welding by cutting up an old piece of fairing.
{Hopefully I won't need it, but} where did you buy ABS sticks?

Amazon: ABS Plastic Welding Rod, 1/8 in. Diameter, 30 ft, Black

Brand is Polyvance. I bought a plastic welder years ago to fix holes in my kayak but it was made out of a different plastic  so I bought whatever that was with it but the ABS works with the welder just as well.
