It's going to be a Tom Petty day for me.  I'll be streaming all of his music.

To me Petty was trying to sound like Dylan. Not taking anything from him but he sure did try.
He left us too soon.

Naaahhh ... Tom did sound like Dylan, and even listed Dylan as an influence, but I don't believe he was trying to sing like Dylan. That's just Tom's natural singing voice. He even sounded like 'himself' when speaking. You're basically calling him a copycat fraud, and I don't think a singer can have a 40-year Hall of Fame career while simply copying somebody else ... ?

Actually, I dunno who the hell would wanna sound like Bob Dylan, anyway, if they could help it. Copy his lyrics and melodies, sure, absolutely, but his voice??

Petty was one of the artist who helped create the soundtrack of my life.

He was a musical genius who left a huge legacy.

He'll be missed.

Who called him a copycat fraud? No t me. You dont sound like Dylan unless you try. Dylan could actually sing when he wanted to. So could Petty.

Petty was one of the guys who got us away from Disco shite, and back to good rockin' tunes in the '70's. Playing some Wilbury's,where now 3 great ones are gone. RIP

I don't think he was trying to sound like Dylan.   Just the way he sings.  He's got quite a few different 'voices' based on what I've listened to these past several days.   Totally agree on the Dylan thing, though.  Didn't at first, but after binging on his music over the last several days, you're absolutely correct.

I too can detect a similarity on some tracks Jim

This collaboration track though is 'different' ( I reckon you've already heard it Jim)
