Rach Tech appears to offer a front-end suspension and lowering kit for the ZG1000.  I search the threads but didn't see anything specifically related to this modification.  I was wondering if anybody has tried this mod.  If you lowered the front end (potentially reducing the rack),  would you need to lower the rear proportionally to keep the geometry of the bike consistent.  Thoughts/comments?

  • Race Tech complete front-end suspension kit improves comfort and performance of damping rod forks
  • More than just fork lowering kits, these come with Race Tech Gold Valve cartridge fork emulators and high-  performance springs
  • Also includes hardware to lower bike 1" or 2"

I fitted 1kg/mm springs, Racetech gold valves, & 15wt oil years ago. Fantastic improvement. I also fitted a Wilbers rear shock. Others who ride newer bikes are surprised how well it handles considering it's age and weight. You won't be disappointed and I haven't heard of anyone who has done the upgrade going back to stock.

I have pushed my forks 6mm through the triple clamps to improve steering responce but I don't think it has made much of a difference.

A fork brace can help improve handling especially if the bike is a '94 or younger model.

Ditto on the 1Kg/mm springs, emulators and 15 weight oil. Also SISF's suggestion of 4 holes in the blow-off plate, blue springs and 2 turns preload. Probably as good as it will ever get. Didn't do any lowering, though.

Thanks for the responses......I was just probing to see if anyone had actual experience with the lowering kit.  I spoke with a technician at Race Tech and he actually stated that lowering the front would not really make that much of a difference in handling for the Concours;  maybe just a quicker turn-in.  I think this one can be laid to rest.

A little late but have you checked the Wiki-FAQs?

Yep, read through the threads but didn't find any mention of trying this mod.  However,  Wiki-FAQs contained lots of good information on suspension mods.  Thanks for the post.
