Hi, I am a 70-year old who has been riding since I was 15 illegally, and since 17 legally.
I totally forgot about this forum for years. I actually joined in January of 2019, but never posted. I was also on the COG forum, but they cancelled my membership saying to continue, I had to pay to be a member. To hell with that!
In April 2017, I sold my pristine
1994 ZX7 (getting too old to drive that crotch-rocket), then I bought a
1999 C10. I don't think the previous owner either cared about maintenance or knew much about bikes, because it was running on 3 cylinders, the windshield had faded to orange from being out in the sun, and nothing had been done to it.
I determined the 3-cylinder problem was due to a kick-stand that was bent and allowed the bike to lean further to the left than normal. Rain pooled above the #1 spark plug and seeped by the rubber boot, and rusted the plug and connector. After fixing that, it was back on all fours. I did the fuel gauge fix, the ground fix, added a USB wire for either phone or GPS, replaced the seat, polished the windshield, fixed all bulbs, re-routed the throttle cable correctly, fixed the cracks on the luggage bags, changed the fork oil, adjusted forks and rear suspension, removed and re-greased the rear drive, changed the tires, and just cleaned the bike.
This Winter, I have purchased a new windshield from Clearview, new led bulbs for the dash, and a new LED headlight. Once The weather gets better, I will install this stuff before this year's riding season.
I end up riding alone most of the time since I don't know of too many older riders who like to go for a 500km/300 mile ride on twisty roads. I haven't learned to ride like a 70-year old, I still ride like I am still on the
ZX7.
Looking forward to browsing this forum and posting from time to time.
Cheers.
