Dropped something in the gas tank :(
« on: March 27, 2012, 11:04:35 PM »
My gas cap was having issues of the lock not turning allowing for me to open it so, I removed it and added a little lubrication to a few parts to get it working. As I go to reinstall it, the rubber washer (PN : 92093) that is on the right and back of the flange assembly falls into the tank. How critical is it for me to go retrive it? I'm trying to figure out where the fuel pick up is but, can't tell from the fuel pump assembly pictures. I can get the washer for about $5 and install it.

I'd say that you need a washer, but you don't "need" to retrive the old one.
Also .. the fuel pump/pickup is mounted thru the bottom of the tank.

I'd just get a new one and keep a mental note to get the original one out sometime later like when you pull the fuel tank to add some other farkel.  ;D

+1, that washer ain't gonna hurt anything in the tank. Unless it floats in gas, could it mess with the float sensor in there?

It would be easily retrieved by pulling the tank, flipping it upside down.. And removing the fuel pump to gain access to the inside of the tank..  That rubber grommet wont get caught in your pump pick up though...  Get another if you dont want to remove the tank..

Just as long as you don't lock your keys in there, you will be fine. :)

Been waiting for someone to say hopefully over time the washer because now it is immersed in gasoline does not break down and give you other issues. My bike it would have to come out of there. My 2 cents...Gentle guy's.

Wouldn't the fumes do as much damage? ;)  And it is more than likely made out of viton, which holds up very well against fuels.

The first guy is clearly not ATGATT, although the sunglasses do offer a modicum of eye protection.
