Tips on replacing the side case seal
« on: August 08, 2011, 02:55:23 PM »
I just tried to install the side case seal but there is a few spots I cant get it to stay seated.  Im not sure if its the adhesive or what thats causing the bind up but any ideas would be great!

I used a contact type adhesive but if someone else knows of something better let me know.

3M High-Strength 90 Spray Adhesive. It's what I used for the side case seal and the insulation inside the fairings. Been holding strong for two years now. Lowes or Home Depot

How did you spray it without getting it all over?   Also how did you position it?  Once it touches the other its stuck isnt it?

Questions questions questions!

Im having trouble getting the seal all the way seated before the adhesive tacks up.

If I remember it has an adjustable nozzle, either wide spray or narrow.

What about some weather strip adhesive?

I used the stuff coastal suggested.  I made a mess of the seal spraying it but it some what cleaned up and doesnt look bad now.  I taped off the case so I could spray it.

So far its holding nice.  Only put one coat of spray on each of the parts.

Thanks!

If you don't mind sharing ...

What was the issue that required the side engine case to be removed?

Which Side Case?

(Attached doc has part diagram)

Thanks

Had nothing to do with the engine.  All plastics.  Side case cover, lower and middle fairing. Really damage wasn't that bad but I'm a perfectionist.   Wife had me get the parts to fix it up.  I did save the mirror.
