Avon Storm 2

The PR2s looks like \_/.   Time for new tires, and thinking about alternatives.  The heart says go for PR3, the budget says look for alternatives  Here is the math at Competition Accessories.

I have had great success with the Avon Storms on my FZ6, and am on the second set.  PR2s on the C14 did about 7000 miles.   Storms cost 78% of the PR2, so I guess it is fair to say that as long as I get 78% of the mileage, or about 5500 miles, I break even.  By the same measure, the PR3 costs 12% more than the PR2, so logic would say I would have to get almost 1000 more miles to get the same value.

PR2s have been great, but so were the Avons, so I bought the Avons.  We'll see how it goes.  I'll let y'all know what happens after a few miles.

After dunlops, metzlers, the only tire that I put on my C10 was Avon.  Best tires I ever had in the rain or dry.  I really want to hear your update.  If they are as good on the C14, I am in.

Can you explain the difference to me? I believe the spec is 190/50.

The 55 is how thick the tire is, so the thicker, the more meat you have to wear it out or take longer to flatten.  However, you don't want go so thick that it influence the drivability of the ride. 190/55 is a good choice.

Ummm...no. The first number is the section width; that's the width of the carcass of the tire (not including the tread, so 2 different 190 tires might be slightly different sizes, and they'll always be a bit wider overall than the number). The second number is the sidewall aspect ratio; it's the ratio of the section width to the sidewall height. A 190/55 is 55% as tall as it is wide; a 190/50 is 50% as tall as it is wide. The tire thickness and tread depth are pretty much the same for both (there might be slight differences, but not much).

55 has a taller profile which allows it to turn in quicker.  If you ever use one, you'll never ever go back to a 50 (unless you just want the bike to not handle as well).
