Here's a picture of my bro's M109R. He really likes the smoothness of the Concours power plant. In his words, "the speed is effortless on your bike. the power delivery is sick!"

Not a great pic, but one with two... two red Ninja ST's together... :o I had just come down from Devil's Tower, and stopped at a gift store to pick up a shirt for the Munchkin... looked out and my bike had cloned another... LOL!!! A couple from Baltimore was touring on there way back from California and stopped. What you can't see in the pic is a black C14 behind the guy across the street in the parking lot that is about to enter Devil's Tower park. ;)

Not sure what happened, I can't find it now. But it was a guy on a 2010 C14 that had crutches set up on the right side since he only has one leg. I saw him ride by on Wednesday but didn't get a chance to talk to him.
Yep, a black dude named Tony. One hell of a rider, and a super nice guy.
We've munched some high speed miles together. 8)

I don't think the trees in these orchards are at their peak of blooming either. If the weather is good next week, there may be even more blooms and some on the ground as well, to make it look more like snow.

Hi
New to the forum.
As part of my midlife crises I have bought a 1400GTR Trike, I have wanted a trike since I was 16.
New to Trikes, and the only biking I have done was around fields and woods etc on a Lambreta 150, DT125, KT250 (I think)
Will post more pics once there is a sunny day to take it out.

Another from our trip recently.

My brother traded his bass boat for this 2010 FJR. Damn nice bike! Not as nice as mine though...
[smg id=633]
He came over yesterday to show me his bike and we took off for a 5 hour ride (he took the day off of work and I don't work any longer, aka retired). :D
We filled up twice and what's funny is that after our ride we compared fuel efficiencies. His FJR got 41.2 and Connie got 41.1.

The Connie is hands down more fun to ride but the bun and hand warmers on the beemer sure are nice in cold weather, Not to mention the wife thinks that K1200 rear seat is the bomb.

I have a new to me bike. 2012 with almost 14,000 miles on it.
I tried an FJR 1300 this past year and found out real fast that it was the wrong bike for me.
I was lucky enough to find a dealer to give me an even swap. Of course the FJR had lower mileage 1100 or so.
-
I'm going to replace my 09 C14 this year and I am really considering the FJR.
On paper the FJR wins, but I'm afraid it won't match the C14 in the real world. (so to speak)
A 2015 C14 (even though it didn't get the upgrades I hoped for) is the bike I KNOW I should probably buy. (we'll see?)
Required pic of my '09. the day I rode it home in Feb. of 2009.

Hit the road today, saved the best for last? Warm weather has hit wisconsin. First two days it was the K1200LT. Nice features for cold weather and great protection out on the road. Then the XS650 got exercised. Hard to beat that classic parallel twin feeling. Had to do a bit of final tuning on the Road star after some mods. Well a cruiser is a cruiser. Today it was the Connies turn. sweet. I think I need to look at the PO's fork settings, over some frost heaves it's pretty brutal, I'm thinking the damping may be cranked all the way up? He liked to go fast.

The first pic is of the downstream side of Kerr Dam in Mecklenburg county VA. Was there this past weekend. The far left of the dam where you see the concrete wall jutting out was a favorite hangout for me and my friends during our HS years. We used to fish off that wall and when that wasn't working, set off fireworks. The walls of the dam gave a nice reverb. Couldn't do that now. My second cousin actually runs the dam. I'll have to wrangle a tour.
The second pic is of the upstream side. Just below where the bike is sitting is where I used to go fishing with my friends and went swimming and had picnics with my future wife.
The third pic is of my HS. Park View Senior HS. It hasn't changed much in nearly 40 years. Where I'm sitting used to be a wayside with many Dogwood trees and a picnic area to the rear of it. Not there now, unfortunately. One side has been turned into a trash transfer station. Literally makes me sick.
-
The first pic is of the rear of where the bike is facing. Somewhere back there is a tree with my future wife's and mine initials.
The second pic is of my wife's mother's house. The pear tree is probably as old as I am. Should be a good crop this year. Hey, how did that Prius get in the picture?

This is my new 2014. Bought it at the start of January and finally got to pick it up yesterday. It surpassed all my expectations. Once moving, it does not feel heavy at all. I was prepared for it to not steer that well on the stock tires, but it really surprised me. I have been following the break in pretty close, so I haven't really got on it yet; but it feels like it is going to be sneaky fast. I put 125 miles on it yesterday, and just changed the oil and filter; as well as the final drive oil. I didn't see any flakes, but it did have a bit of a different colour (lighter) to it. Also, I only got 4liters out of it. I filled it to the middle of the sight glass (took 4.5). I suspect someone didn't do their job properly when they filled it.
Here is a picture I took when I stopped for a coffee at a little strip mall.
-
Oh, it's sneaky alright. Play a little music and before you know it you are at 70+ on a 55 at the blink of an eye. Always wants to go faster. It ain't never satisfied.
I also own a 2000 ZX12R Ninja. It has an "I'm gonna rip your eyeballs out" personality to it. You are always aware of this when riding it. The Connie seams to have an "I'm gonna lull you to sleep" personality--right up to the point it hits you in the back of the head with a 2x4! Brilliant motor! That is why I love Kawasaki---they make the most amazing motors on the market.

Don't know which route you took but absolutely love the ride from Salmon to Stanley and through the Saw Tooth mountains.
Just peeked at a map and assuming you took 90 to 25. But there is so much fantastic riding between Coeur d'Alene and Denver if you stay off the slab.

Freight run tomorrow. I could pay the post office to ship the wheels AND have to box them or collect the fee and deliver. What could go wrong? Actually they are quite secure, there's a piece of 3/4 threaded rod through both and a pair of ratchet straps to hard points. will be about a 400 mile trip tomorrow.

The C14 is not suitable for Dalton Hwy when raining. The mud stacked between the front fender and tire blocked the front wheel and it was sliding in the deep mud and confused the traction control and the ABS. :yikes:

Where is your bike? Home/Fairbanks/Anchorage?
The road (Dalton Hwy) was actually dry on my way north so I made it to Deadhorse / Prudhoe bay. I also made the most of it back south, but slid and fell in deep mud (and I mean DEEP) just 2 km north of Yukon River Bridge (about 250 km north of Fairbanks). South of that bridge the road is better. Still not paved but better.
Few other bikers also fell at the same spot. Most of them on adventure bikes much more appropriate for dirt and off road than the C14. One of them who was going north on a V-Storm fell twice and just turned around and returned back to Fairbanks.
It seems the MC Enterprises Canyon Cages crash bars that I installed on the bike did not protected it good enough. The left cowls the mirror and most importantly the left frame cover that holds the foot peg and the shifter (see picture) broke. The left hard case protector bent the sub frame. The case remained intact but due the distorted geometry of the 3 attaching points it was not lockable back in its place. The bike was unridable. I transported it to Fairbanks and then to Anchorage to a Kawasaki dealer for an estimate. The estimate was high enough so the Insurer declared it total loss. I suppose they will auction it in Anchorage. The insurer reimbursed me for my plane ticket back to Calgary, and for the BMW R1200GS that I rented after I came back home. They paid decent amount for the Connie and for my damaged jacket, pants and Shoei Neotec, all purchased just few monts before the trip. Thanks god I upgraded my policy to the highest possible before I left for the trip. Now I'm considering my next bike. I narrowed down the list to two bikes: C14 again :) (love this bike, it would be my third C14) OR Yamaha Super Ténéré. I am waiting for the 2016 models to be released although I do not expect serious upgrades on these models.

The problem is if the road surface is not flat, it will allow things to contact (think rocks, curbs, etc). Or if the road is not paved, the bars can sink in, also causing impact.

Yep, nothing will completely protect, especially if the bike goes down hard.

Agree. I also had front foot pegs lowering brackets installed They make foot pegs touch the ground earlier.

It's been awhile but I decided I had to have another Connie! Here is a pic! Got her home yesterday, rode it 20 miles this morning and she shut down on me. She threw a FI code and I had to have it picked up off the interstate. Been a long weekend and it isn't even here yet!

The new first gear along with the new seat and steering head bearing really make this a whole different bike than what I owned before! I have not rode the wife yet but she pulls off from a stop really easy. Really like what Kawi has done with this bike and can't wait to see what they come up with next.

The new first gear along with the new seat and steering head bearing really make this a whole different bike than what I owned before! I have not rode the wife yet but she pulls off from a stop really easy. Really like what Kawi has done with this bike and can't wait to see what they come up with next.
Glad to hear it!

Yeah, I'm not terribly fond of that either, but it's just gonna have to wait to be exorcised.

Dalton is hard but doable. Extremely slippery when wet. The weight of a heavy loaded Connie does not help at all..

Finally got mine, after looking for about a year or so! Great deal. 2012, purchased new in 13, and I got it from the original owner. Sargent seat, canyon bars, bit Vtech shield, throttlemaster. Got an issue with the TPS sensor and gonna post bout that in the forum cause the local dealer may be jerking me around. Love the bike! It is my only transportation while I am in grad school the next three years, but loving the ride, even in the 33 degree weather today! Just did 1000 miles in the past two weeks getting it back to grad school.

Does 'lound' means 'big ass exhaust can'? ;D

Signature corrected....nice catch Conrad. Does anybody have any ideas on how to enlarge my stock pipe? Maybe a 55 gallon drum with some fiberglass packing? Wait a minute....the stock pipe is 55 gallons. Never mind. :>) I think I need to update my signature though.

Yep, west of Comstock TX and east of Langtry TX.

When you do, be sure to ride up into the basin in the park, and also west of Lajitas on Fm 170 at least as far as the big hill (https://fartymarty.smugmug.com/photos/i-CmFsd5D/0/O/i-CmFsd5D.jpg).

Added some color. Tried to do something similar to what I did with my C10. I really wanted to paint the graphics, but I could never come up with anything I liked, the 2010+ models have some funky body lines? I ended up painting the wheels chrome yellow and I also painted the lower cowlings gloss black to match the rest of the bike. Everything else is Oracal vinyl that I cut by hand using a straight edge. The silver decals are reflective. I would still like to paint the graphics on the bike if I can come up with something I like, maybe next winter? Here are some pics I snapped right before I left for the National.

Depends on your perspective. Back in the 30's and before, this was a thriving town and this is one of the nicer 'abandoned' buildings. Behind me are railroad tracks where my grandfather and his father in law were killed trying to 'beat' a train to a crossing. They were both dead drunk at the time.
No zombies?
I hope not but one never knows.. I didn't have the courage to look in the building.

It was in 1932 and my grandfather was driving (not very well) a car.

:yikes: I've certainly seen lots of movies with people trying to beat a train to a crossing, but this is the first time I've heard of actual people trying and failing to do it. How long ago did this happen?
-
My ex's grandfather was hit by a train, long ago in Sicily. The claim was he was hard of hearing and didn't know the train was coming. Some say it had to do with the Cosa Nostra, as this happened in Alia, a town outside Palermo. No one knew for sure or much discussed the past from the old country.
Here's proof the Connie is back home...

It happens ALL the time! I am an Engineer, and have been involved in many crossing accidents where people thought they could beat the train. It is not worth the risk because I win all ties. The images of peoples final moments are burned into my brain forever.

Mine. 2012. Purchased it used about a year ago. I did all the mods.
Has my little "day" rear bag on it. For the long, long trips I also have my Givi monokey top case and Givi tank bag. Of course I do like to ride it "naked" around town, also with no bags on it. 8)
I have it hard wired for my cell with a RAM X grip mount and I upgraded from my Nuvi to a Garmin 595 (I am SO glad I did, save up, its worth it!) on a Ram brake reservoir mount. I have it wired through a two way waterproof trailer plug so I can completley remove the mount from the bike when I don't need it.
Everything is wired through a Rowe PDM with a Skeen auto dimmer on my landing....I mean my running lights.

Well, since you called me (collectively speaking) by name, I'll respond.
I was referring to the lagoon,...
We know.
However, as you are well aware...when someone leaves the door open....then...we are required to all run through it. I'm sure it's in the twit manual (http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?action=logout) somewhere (I never read it, what I do comes natural).
-
I agree with Marty.... not picking up on an obvious opportunity is wasteful and frankly disappointing.
When presented with an opening (Easy Boys!), always stop and think of what you may be able to stick in there (Boys!!), even if you have to provide your own opening (Easy Transexuals!!!).
My '08 C-14 is as gray as the day is long..... until you put in next to something really gray or silver, then it magically turns light blue. My wife has a 100% silver car until you park it next to something else silver and it turns a rather unpleasant mint green.
Brian (who is mostly beige I guess, until I am parked next to an anarchist and then I turn red)
Well, since you called me (collectively speaking) by name, I'll respond.

I have said this before, but it seems like there is a large imbalance of Virginians on the zggtr.org forum. I can't explain it.... perhaps Virginians just love the C14 more than people elsewhere? Or perhaps there is something about this particular forum that attracts us? Ah the mystery.

It flips back the correct way when I click on it. Post up some pics of it in the sun, and out of the trailer. I'd like to see the difference in the color of the 2018 vs the 2016. I know they are different colors, but they look almost the same on Kawasaki's pictures.
How long before you take her out for the first ride?

Only the 2018 has the green pin-striping in the USA/CA (and 2017 only in the EU). So it can't be a 2016 (at least, not if that is factory original)

Kawasaki used the same image on their website for both the 2016 and 2018 models. (See first image below). Second image is an actual US 2016 which had the green piping. (I almost bought that one). The last image is of a 2018 that I just found on a google search. That picture wasn't available back when I was trying to figure out the difference between the 2 colors.

That is the worst part of buying a new bike this time of year... getting the time and weather to sync up to where you can get some riding time in. I'm still fighting to get my break in miles completed.

Actually it's the 3rd (last) pic above. Does anyone know what the earlier color is called? Black Spark Metallic is what they call the 2018 but it sure looks different than the others.

The '16 is nice....but for sale. Have lost the thrill of the hunt I suppose.
-
Hey everyone, it's been a long time since I've posted here. I got rid of my 2012 about 3 years ago and have been on the Triumph Trophy since and am planning on buying a new Concours when I am finished with this bike. I am curious about 1 thing on the newer Concours, the windscreen with the vent...does that really make a big difference riding with the vent in open position(s)? I remember the windscreen one the earlier models being really bad! I have been wondering about the vent and how effective it is...anyone? I'm asking here because you guys that have the new bikes are using that feature...would love to know! Nice bikes btw ;)
Thanks,
Mike
-
IMO windscreens are so variable to each rider. The OEM on the '16 was OK at best for me. What I didn't like....it is lightly made, seemed to vibrate more and just a couple inches too low. So I found a used CeeBailey and am happier with it.
The vent is supposed to eliminate back pressure on rider. Maybe. But the CeeBailey, to me, doesn't create back pressure. And I can raise it just enough to see over without ill effects.
To each his own,
Roger
-
On the stock 2010-2014 windscreen, there is back pressure, but just raising it an inch relieves most of it. I think of the 2015+ "mailbox" vent as more of just that, a vent. It allows more airflow for cooling that you can get without it. Me, I just switch to a cut-down (shortened) stock screen when it starts to get hot, then switch back to the stock when it starts to get cold. WAY more effective for cooling (can get massive amounts of air). But the trick is picking WHEN to make that switch :)

For YOU maybe, but remember how little agreement there is on windshields, seats and bars.
Nothing but all the way down worked for me, with every windshield I tried except the Aeroflow...but that thing really flopped around and it was unsightly. I even tried the Madstad brackets.
I think of the 2015+ "mailbox" vent as more of just that, a vent. It allows more airflow for cooling that you can get without it.
That may be the way YOU think of it, but it works more for a back pressure vent than a cooling vent for ME. I generally ride with the screen all the way down, but in the very cold, the heavy rain, or to get some more quiet to talk on the phone, then I need it up and then the back pressure really kicks in for me. A half hour in the rain with the windshield up and my neck muscles were screaming at me.
I installed the new vented OEM windshield on my 2010 model and the vent is the only thing that has really helped with that when my shield is up. So yes, the vent is a big help, for ME, but for you Mikeb2411, I'm afraid we can only say maybe. With shields, seats and bars and even footpegs sometimes, it's a crap shoot as to what will work for you.
AHH I need to go to bed, Conrad will be getting up in an hour to get it on with the Mrs on with his day, and I won't have had my first dream yet. ???
-
It is very true that screens and bars and seats and helmets etc are very different for different people.
-
so, on the Trophy (hate to bring it up) the windscreen on that bike is really good! They did a great job with theirs, no need for an aftermarket screen and I was hoping that the new windscreen for the Concours was an improvement but sounds as if I will have to test that myself...darn, another test ride :P
Anyway, I miss hanging out in here and hope to be back on another C14 before too long...I do miss that bike, especially with the SISF flash! I am watching Kawaskaki and waiting to see if they add something like ESA. CC is something we can add but the ESA is really handy to have and I am hoping they add it to C14...SOON!

Agreed. Am just now exploring this kinda stuff and I'm coming to the conclusion that I don't need a fancy vented anything, just something that is going to direct air where I want it. The stock screen will do that, as long as I remember to use the raising and lowering options. Duh.

Coggers,
Ok here you go. My Connie. Recently painted by Justin at Vision Collision in Burien, WA. Lots of pearl and glass with the blue. We did high gloss black accents on the bags and trunk, fins, fairing lowers, top fairing cover, tank cover and fork covers and I am very happy with the way it turned out. This is before I found the new badges in black and mounted the Top Block tip over bars. I will update when I retake some pics.
Safe riding!

ahhh...you guys want him to put Canyon cages on after he spent that money on top blocks??? Pretty sure he can only do one or the other and I think he has already chosen. Now maybe some saddlebag protectors might be prudent.

I was not aware he already had tipover protection[/quote]
Now maybe some saddlebag protectors might be prudent.
I would, indeed, recommend rear protection (canyons) even if top blocks are installed, because I don't believe the top blocks offer adequate rear protection.

I grew up in Midlothian. Back then, there was almost NOTHING in Powhatan... it was just a place where the world ended, a few miles west of our high school (Clover Hill). I guess things change!

Well, there's still not a lot. Going close to there tomorrow. Riding to Amelia.

There have been a few changes since then. Clover Hill High School used to be on Hull St (Route 360). They built a new Clover Hill High School on Genito RD. The old High School is still there, but it is a tech center or something now. Also, 360 doesn’t go to Powhatan, Route 60 does. There is a lot of new businesses in Powhatan and plans for a lot more going in over the next 10 years. Ultimate Cycles is located just a few miles down Route 60 from the Bruster’s where the picture above was taken.
-
Yep.... 60. 360 is Amelia. Sorry, my memory is fuzzy since it was such a long time ago...
-
Passed by Ultimate twice yesterday. Wonderful day to ride. Finished up in Nottoway CH and it was close to 90 degrees. The amazing thing was that as I got close to Powhatan I experienced an immed 4 degree drop in temp. By the time I got back in King George the temp had fallen nearly 20 degrees.

Yes, 727 Metallic Dark Green.
Love the seat, who makes it- any links to share? The GTR logo and trim looks fantastic!
-
The seat was on there when I bought it but it has a makers mark on the rear and its made by these people:
http://www.topsellerie.com/@EN-FR/kawasaki-gtr-1400-2007_451.html (http://www.topsellerie.com/@EN-FR/kawasaki-gtr-1400-2007_451.html)
They seem to do standard/lowered and also longer seats for the GTR in various trims. French company. I can vouch for the comfort of the seat and quality, although I dont know what the orginal one was like. Its making me think now if the seat thats on there is a lowered one?
**EDIT: After wondering if i have a modified seat i went and took a closer look at mine. No specific model numbers on the seat but the one from the link below matches mine perfectly. Seems like it may be standard height but Gel front and Back. Unless the previous owner chose that seat then took the standard options back off which i doubt as no expense was really spared on this bike. Ive owned for a year, its a 1 owner bike before me, 55k miles now but has 2 full service books from new every 3k from Kawasaki dealer he bought it from and also he bought the extended 3 year warranty. All miles done in central London. Even have the receipt for the Scorpion Exhaust from the day he collected the bike new too. Oh and Kawasaki Top box. She's a beut.

Hmm, looks like it is just an included trunk and anti-scratch stickers on the pannier tops and tank.

Yep. That color never made it to the North American market. The closest we came was "Candy Arabian Red" in 2012, which many like to call "root beer", a dark-brownish red. A very unusual color.

Just bought it yesterday. First C14 for me -- 2011. Pretty much bone stock other than 2" risers and that mean K&N sticker on the front (which has already been removed).

Thanks. I had a 1990 ZG1000 back in the late '90s. I started riding cop bikes and racing road cars so I sold the ZG1000 for race money. The cops moved us up from KZs to Beemers. I hadn't ridden since I rode this bike in 2010 when I went down to Houston for a visit. Now I can't stay off of it. :D
-
Now I can't stay off of it. :D
Apparently HE could! Only 2,012 miles in 11 years??? Yeesh! And I thought I was a slacker with only 48,000 miles in 9 years...
Once you finally break it in, get it flashed; you won't even want to remember riding police "Beemers".

Flashed? Tell me more.
To be fair, he had a Honda 999 (got stolen), still has a Ducati something, and a Harley Softail.

got this metallic spark Black '13 3 weeks ago, 5600 miles...w/2bros carbon slip on, new battery, new Metzlers, LED headlights, Dragonslayer short screen, in the box;off to be sold yuck...1 owner, MINT, did I say MINT, looked brand new 7k. It was 10 miles from my house.
Ordered Sargent seat today, put on the VStream touring screen, MRA mini top screen, chrome levers and bar ends, Delkevic slip on; sold the 2 bros. orange/yellow LED city lights, 2" risers with Murphs wedges, xtra long fenda extender from the canadian guy on here, last thing I'm gonna do is strip the black wheels to shiny alum...ughhh dreading that...sold my blue '10 2 yrs ago...was at the Suches meeting with it in '18.
just sold the '06 FJR after riding up to the Blue ridge, that I wish I hadn't bought, hated it...Connie is far superior in every way...the fuel cut off ecu is smoother on this '13 than the '10.

Link above appears to be safe. Jean Marc, it might be better in the future to upload the pic directly into the post via the attachments and other options...
Nice looking bike!
-
at the dragon trying out black widow full system.
-
Cool Maverick9611. How did it feel?
-
dragon a bit tight for it but the ergo’s help. cherohala skyway or 28 is much more suited for the connie.
black widow full exhaust was great. killed my mpg avg. 35-38. rather have the performance over mpg

havin a blast!

Nice, love the pic.

I'm finally back on 2 wheels with this '19 Connie. Wrecked my '08 in Jan. 2019 after 111,000 miles on it. Took 4 years to get back on and I gotta make up for lost time ;)

Welcome back! And on the only true "silver" other than the 2011 :) Although not as completely silver, and also non-glossy. Did you buy it used? A strange combination, the 2019/2020 was. Do you find the unusual "matte" finish to be odd and/or harder to clean? Is the leading fairing (below the front turn signals) painted black or just raw plastic? I have never seen one in person.

Welcome back ;D

Indeed..
