I'm amazed by Yamaha's notification about top case on FJR 1300
« on: November 12, 2012, 09:12:48 AM »
Yep!
They state that you shouldn't use a top case and saddlebags at the same time on the bike!  :o
Either you remove the bags and install the top case or ... viceversa!
But not both at the same time!

I only happened to know about it today, but I read this notice was already issued for the previous version, it's not new for MY2013.

They say that "this could overload the rear part of the frame"

And this could happen on what it's supposed to be a touring bike ???  ?

I always appreciated the FJR 1300 despite the age of the project and the fact that she still has 5 gears.
But this limitation seems absurd to me and just due to avoid possible legal disputes after accidents.

This removes definitely the FJR 1300 from my "dream" ;) shopping list!
Stand out from the crowd: do not buy a BMW !!!

Same reason Honda wouldn't import the Hondaline topbox for the ST1300.  At least you CAN buy it from Yamaha.  LOL!!!  8)

butt covering boilerplate legalese.  It's the world we live in.

on the other hand, I have successfully used the GVWR as an excuse to not give a fat girl a ride....

I've got a '13 FJR on order. Yamaha's been saying that since day 1. Just covering their butts.

I had a '05 FJR before my C14, never had any problems using a top case and the side cases together.

Nice.

I loved the BS about running topbox on the ST1300... The dreaded "pan weave".  Just pay attention to suspension settings, and you should be good.  I had my ST in triple digits I don't know how many times with topbox on.

I rode my '07 FJR with panniers and Givi topbox and never had any problems.  I always assumed this was because of CYA or somebody would sue them.
