Title: Something neat at the Air Force Museum in Dayton..
Post by: VirginiaJim on May 06, 2013, 05:10:56 AM
Check this out.....virtual cockpit views.  Just chanced on this.  It's amazing.

Shameless plug.....the museum is the 8th wonder of the world if you're into Air Force aircraft or just aircraft in general.  They even have a special spot for MC parking near the entrance!

I go there every year and never tire of it.

Come on over here and I'll give you a guided tour!  Takes about 2-3 days to see everything, though.  It would be a nice place to meet up and spend the day.   I haven't planned my trip to Dayton for this year yet but when I do I'll broadcast it so maybe some others could join at the same time and have a day of it.  Plus, the riding in Ohio is very good.  Just ask Poke!

I'm going to be out in Dayton next week for the Hamvention.  Haven't decided on what I'm going to see out there this year.  AF museum is already on my short list of possibilities.

Lovely, the link appears to be broken.  I guess we overwhelmed their server.

Other links on their main site appear to be going down, down, down...... Oh well.  Try back later.

Site working now/again.

I am trying to figure out where the cockpit camera was physically mounted in the Pave Low.  I spin that picture until I am dizzy and cannot quite figure out where it is attached.

Awesome!

Thanks.  The detail is amazing.  I'm looking at the B-36.  My dad was a crew chief on one of those.  So many wires and different things to break.  It's amazing those beasts flew at all.  But they did.  Thanks to Convair and the ground crews.

Sorry, it is "ham" of the radio variety, not the porcine.  There are some good eats there, though.

If anyone is going to the Hamvention, or in the area, my friends and I will be in the outdoor flea market spot #0133.  Literally right next to Gate "I", near the (free!) motorcycle parking.  We're right on the outside fence, so you don't even have to get a ticket to enter if you are in the area and want to stop by to say hello.  (Yes, motorcycle parking is free in that area.  No, most of the parking attendants are usually NOT aware of this fact.  Yes, motorcycles without vendor passes are allowed in the main - Shiloh Springs Road - entrance.)

Forgot to mention.  The Hamvention is at the Hara Arena in Dayton, OH.

Look straight down.  There's a white spot that there is no picture.  Looks like a turntable that the camera stand was probably sitting on.

That's really cool. Whenever I go visit my Dad in Salt Lake (Layton) I try to make time to go to the Hill AF museum. It has some amazing planes. They do all the restoration in-house. There is a large collection outside (B1, Guppy, B52, B19, etc) as well. Last time I was there they had a MIG 25(?) outside. Thanks for sharing.
