Which screen for summer?
« on: May 04, 2012, 05:41:26 AM »
Yesterday on the ride home it was 84 and muggy and while the stock screen was great this spring on those cold mornings, I would like something that moves more air. I was thinking maybe the Cee Bailey Euro short but that is larger than the stock screen. What are you guys running for summer screens?

What year is your bike?  The stock screen on the '08-09 is a fair amount smaller/shorter than the '10+.  I like my stock '09 screen for the summer.  I can see how there could be some benefit to cutting it down even shorter as some people have done.

I have the Cee Bailey Ultra Tour Domed and I run it all the way down when it's warm outside and I get plenty of air flow. I'm 5'9" tall if that makes a difference

Gen 1 stocker and a set of Baker Hand Wings, lots of air where ya want it.  I'd cut her down but it has been known to leak moisture 'round these parts :D

I cut ~4" off a stock '08/'09 screen and I use that when it gets hot out.

I've just (05*02/2012) cut down my stock (2010-2012) shield for summer usage. Took about 4.5"-5" off of it. I also added the Cal Sci. cutout to it. Took it out on a quick ride and I didn't have any turbulence at all. Getting a good amout of air all the way from full down to full up. I do feel that the Cal Sci. cutout is what has helped the most with eliminating the turbulence.

For referance: I'm 6'1" w/34" inseam.

I've also got the V-Stream. No turbulence with it either, but it was just starting to get too hot behind it in 90 deg F temps.

My summer screen is the 08/09 stocker w/vents, the vents were cut to reduce back pressure but also provides a little more air flow.

Sorry I have a 2010. Iwas looking at the tinted shorty too (liked the idea of a tinted screen) but it's taller and wider than the 2010 screen. Those that have cut down the stock screen, how did it turn out? I searched the forum but didn't see any detailed photos of the results. Have you been a le to round the edges after the cut? I've seen some stock screens for sale at reasonable prices.

The CalSci chart is a little misleading... The shorty is actually 1.75" shorter than the 2010+ stocker, but it is 2" wider. I have one for summer riding, but summer in the Northwest isn't typically super warm, so the CalSci works great for me.

Find an 08-09 stocker somewhere? I use mine for the summer season.

That's nice.
Do you mind me asking where you purchased the screen from?

Jon.

It turned out fine. One generous member of this site gave me his old stock screen. I used my screen as a template to marked the screen to be cut so that the cut was exactly the same only 4" shorter. It's not hot here yet so I don't have it mounted on the bike now.

Here's my 10+ that I cut down (3.5" centerline) and added the Cal Sci cutout.

Good read so far.... Does anyone know who makes the shortest tinted screen for an '11?

Thanks!
