Officer Down
« on: March 21, 2012, 05:56:21 AM »
Several days ago a Florida Dept. of Corrections Correctional Officer Sgt. was stabbed to death at the Columbia C.I.. He leaves behind a pregnant Fiance and  18month old child. Another Officer was stabbed but, survived. Keep them in your prayers.

Corrections Officers walk the toughest beat, no guns, just guts.

I am stepping away now.

Damn.  We've had a lot of assaults on staff recently, including some very serious injuries, but fortunately it has been quite some time since an inmate-related line-of-duty death.  My prayers are with his family.

Crap!  I hate to have to revise this.

Officer K. White of Downstate Correctional Facility was found dead in an empty housing unit.  (This is a reception facility, and housing units are emptied and refilled all the time)  Haven't heard any more details at this point.  May not be an inmate-related incident.

Just able to return. This is the fourth Florida Corrections Officer Death in about 7yrs. Numerous assaults though. As a Shift Supervisor, I pray I never get the 10-24 call (Officer Needs Assistance NOW!) and have to deal with a death of an Officer or Staff Member.

Update to my update.  The death of officer K. White here in NY is apparently not inmate-related.
