I think we as a group should start sending letters to Progressive insurance....
Just got my AMA Motorcyle mag....
Get to page 11.... and see Flo, standing on the back of a bike, no helmet.... in a reflection, with the caption
"We go where you go...""
This is insane.
I have seen other ads from them, with her, sans helmet, in similar situations...
Simply irresponsible advertizing...
I'm sending off a scathing letter to AMA right now...
-
Rich.....Flo's not real.
-
It was the image projected....that is the issue....
Out of a dozen insurance ads, none showed irresponsible hamming it up, all showed respectable concern for the gravity of riding...
If you get the mag, you'll see...
-
just pullin your chain ;)
-
Flo is a reflection, and can't get hurt if you crash. ;D
I hate Flo commercials, but I think we're stuck with them for now. If they spend that much on advertising, imagine how much cheaper they could offer insurance without it.
She'll be an old hag in no time, and we'll have to put up with someone else... ::)
-
Chill pill. It's a reflection. It's a guardian angel metaphor. The rider is fully ATGATT. It's an ad; we have to see Flo's celebrity face to make the connection with Progressive. Everybody gets it. Flo wears a helmet when she's not ethereal. See her other motomercials.
Unless you're pulling our chains. :)
-
I like Flo.
-
^^^ of course you do. :rotflmao:
-
Flo......? Who the F... is Flo?
-
Hope they don't get sued over it. Hey, where does an insurance company get insurance?
(Hint: Us)
-
Flo......? Who the F... is Flo?
Alice's sister? ;) ;D
-
If you don't like Flo, well then you can.

Flo......? Who the F... is Flo?
She is a recurring character in Progressive insurance advertisements.
-
OK..... so that is Flo..... ;D ;D
Hey Kwakrider, what does Alice look like....? :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

I consider insurance a necessary evil. So I want to pay the very least I can and in general stay away from Gieco, Progressive, Allstate... All the companies with mega million marketing campaigns. Got nothing against Flo or the stupid little lizard but I don't want to pay for the gazillion dollar a second super bowl ad.
-
I am with Allstate, because they were the best deal around here. It took a while to shop around, but worth it in the end. I had Flo's company before that, but when I got the ZX14R, they seemed to think I was a sudden crash risk. Screw 'em. ;)
-
Sorrry.... didn't mean for this to be an insurance choice thread...
I guess the point I was making is missed, because most of the posts in response are from people that have not seen the exact ad I am talking about...
Its in the AMA Amaerican Motorcyclist magazine I just got... pag 11.... full page...
I don't think you get it, you won't see helmetless Flo on a TV ad... ain't gonna happen, because Progressive is just smart enough not to broadcast it to general population..
What they have done is place this ad in a publication received by the bike community, which seems to be devided on helmet/no helmet, personal choice, which we all are free to make... that part is fine, not my complaint.... just the simple fact they had her STANDING up on the rear pegs, in a reflection, and touting a claim thye follow you wherever....
Kids today do dumb enough things, just like what was pictured, they don't need more visual coercion to do dumber things...
2 other ads in the past year have similar themes, one has her in a precarious position reflected on a shiny traler adjacent, on a freeway, and one has her reflected off a puddle on a cobblestone road, hanging of the side of the bike.... all in all, these are just feeding them.
Sorry if my comments, don't make sense, but if you saw all 3 ads, I think it could be agreed upon it wasn't "wise choice"...
As I say, you won't see them on TV.....

I doubt kids today have any money left over after they buy their spiked hair-mohawk-helmet attachments to spend on AMA membership, so I think they are safe from seeing the bad FLO example. Still MOB you have to admit she is wearing a pretty protective looking set of boots in the latest ad. Certainly better than the flip flops and metro sexual deck shoes we see on so many. Personally I kind of liked the trailer reflection one, the cobblestone not so much with her almost fingerless gloves.

The funny thing is that in searching for these photos I saw one where she is posing for the trailer reflection one and she is wearing a half helmet (http://www.taylorjames.com/wp-content/uploads/3336_Progressive_Prog-Flo-Stream-8127-CC-1800-2across.jpg), I guess she wasn't recognizable enough with the helmet on.
I could be mistaken, but I think next month's magazine will have her sitting backwards (http://www.taylorjames.com/wp-content/uploads/3336_Progressive_Prog-Flo-PB-5501-1800-CROP.jpg). ;D

I see all those same ads in Roadrunner magazine. ;)
And Roadrunner also refuses to show bikers without protection. Money talks.
-
I'll say one thing...she knows how to hold her hair in place. The wind doesn't seem to affect it at all.

I say remove ALL warning labels and let Darwin's theory take it's course. We have far too many stupid people wasting our finite resources. Sure the Emergency Rooms will be exceptionally busy for a while but if you look at the big picture, they will be far less busy once things settle down.
It's said that "Ignorance is no excuse for the law", I believe the same should apply to the laws of Nature. If you are stupid enough to drag your BBQ grill inside because it's raining and you asphyxiate your entire family, so be it. Odds are, anyone that stupid will have stupid children too. Survival of the fittest was, at one time, the lifeguard at the gene pool. The examples could go on ad nauseum.
-
I think the saying is "ignorance of the law is no excuse".
Every car commercial on TV says, "Professional driver on closed course, do not attempt." They have cars flying all over the place, ramping off buildings and doing all kinds of garbage. It's just an advertisement. It's not real.
-
^^^ What he said
-
"Ignorance is no excuse for the law"
I was going to say that you don't have that quite right, but then I thought about the folks we have making the laws and reconsidered. :)
-

Now that you've pointed that out, I change my mind; I like Deziner's saying better.

This is why the general population is getting dumber and dumber. We're protecting them from themselves too much.
-
Can we leave the center stripe in the road please?
-
Yeah, I saw that too. So no helmet, passing with a blind spot coming up, and her waving her arms all around. It's a wonder the bike is upright.. Good thing its a reflection.
-
It's a divided highway, note the white lines.
-
Ok, then why is it coming up with a yellow in the middle then between the two lanes we see? Is that some western type of thing?
-
Has to be s Photoshop faux pas. I would freak out if I was on a divided highway and came up on double yellow lines. I had to zoom in on the pic to see them. (Small screen on my phone. ???)

As would I. Evidently the bike (with or without passenger) in question doesn't have enough power to pass an SUV pulling a trailer. More than enough power on a stock C14 to get by something like that with next to nothing room. In fact, I daresay that the reflection would be a blur on the Airstream. I think they had to think up something slower...
fox paws ?

It's a vision. It's a Vision. Get it?
-
A Vision?
-
Yes, a V-v-vision.
EDIT: Oh, wait. It's not a V-v-vision. It is a vision, but not a Vision.
It's actually a mirage; I thought I saw a motorcycle, but it was only a Harley-Davidson. ::)
They did highlight that yellow line in the curve to promote motorcycle safety. The guy is passing on broken white lines. Unfortunately, he will never make it by in time.
Maybe we can shift the topic to knocking H-D now.

..but..but..does that mean we aren't all going to stop what we're doing and send letters as a group to Progressive Insurance? :o
-
I thought it was to the AMA? You were supposed to be doing that already. And organizing a demonstration in front of their offices.
