While riding to work this morning I starting feeling as though I had fire ants in my Goatee. I tried scratching under my chin strap but felt no relief through the leather gloves. I almost pulled off the road but continued. It was really burning. When in I got into the parking lot at work I unstrapped my helmet, removed my right glove and gave my chin a deep scratch. Not much relief. I went immediately to the restroom and looked into the mirror to see if I could see anything...nothing. I have one of those cheap hard plastic brushes in my desk drawer and it helped some but the burning continued . Even after washing with soap and water the burning persisted. This could be a problem given I’m fix’n (I'm not from the South but live now) to ride 5+ hours to the races tomorrow. I've been riding with this helmet every day over past several weeks without a problem. Any ideas?
I'm fix'n to head out to lunch. We'll see if it flares back up and if so will be aggressively cleaning the chin strap. I've already told me wife she may be holding me upside down and sprinkling some anti monkey butt powder on the chin.
Spider bite ? I have a shelf in my garage for my helmet to se on, I don't have a lot of spiders in my garage, but I always check the inside and strap before putting it on. I do this out of habit, now. Guess why. Just my .02. Ride sdafe all, Greg
Something on your fingers or gloves you didn't wash off transferred to the straps of the helmet? Chemicals, poison ivy, cactus needles? I like the spider/ant bite scenario. Shingles aren't usually found on the face, usually. You mentioned a beard, is it in the beard or around it? Razor burn? Ingrown/irritated hair from helmet strap?
