Unknown black box 2012 Connie

I have two 2012 Connies......One has this black box on right side.....One doesn't. Can someone tell me what this is....Emissions, ???

That looks like a square version of the one that was on my TL1000R years ago that I removed and plugged the hose with a screw.

I have not even thought to look if my 2009 C14 has one.

Almost certainly only fitted to bikes sold in California.
They are marginally effective for Smog prevention alongside the gas pump vapour recovery systems.
