Title: Old fuel tank recommisioning
Post by: lather on May 05, 2019, 12:28:09 PM
I am going to put my 09 fuel tank to use on my 08 along with all the 09 plastic. The tank has been sitting in my unheated garage for two years with half a tank of fuel. I don't see any rust. Any precautions or suggestions? Thanks.

Definitely drain and dispose of that old fuel.  Take the fuel pump out and inspect the inside of the tank and the fuel filter.  After that, you should be good to go.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking. Dumped the fuel today, will pull the pump tomorrow.  Have a new filter but may wait to install. This pump has only 20k miles.

Pulled the filter and got rid of the old gas. I could not get all the gas out through the gashole but came out through the pumphole ;D
Pump and what I could see of the tank interior looked clean. Since the 09 tank was non ABS I had to transfer the little rubber dealy from the front mount area of the old tank which apparently protects the ABS lines that run though there.
