Interesting and frugal. I also like the gaiters, see my installation on a 2001 C10:

With the copper bushings, how do you ensure that there's no side loading and resultant friction in the fork action?

Great your article, and the others too and the idea of the puck is ingenious.
The copper bushings are there to compensate for the gap between the holes of the Ø10 plates and the Ø8 screws.
